What clothes to pack?

I know there have been a few threads on packing, but I just got the suitcases out and I'm rethinking the outfits.

We're only taking two medium suitcases and our hand luggage. So I wanted to restrict it to 5 outfits each.

I was thinking we wear long pants, SS T-shirt and jumper on the plane. And a backup in the carryon. We are coming from Canberra, it will be cold when we leave,(5:30am!!) should we wear LS top instead? I refuse to wear coats!

It'll be hot when we arrive in Anaheim, currently low 30's. I was going to pack mostly SS tops and shorts, and just have the LS and pants we wear on the plane in case. Along with PJ's underwear swimmers hats and sunnies. does this sound ok?

Of course we will be buying stuff over there, but not sure when we'll be shopping exactly.

Oh, hair dryers? Do ours work over there? We have adaptor plugs, but does that account for voltage too?

That all sounds good to me :thumbsup2

We always wear short sleeve Ts on the plane and carry a light cardigan or jacket - I find the plane temperature can be very erratic - warm one time and cooold the next! :confused3

I usually have a scarf or pashmina in the carryon too - comes in handy as an extra blanket or one time I had to wrap it over my head because the %$##^& behind me had his aircon directed right at the top of my head! :sad2:

We'll be wearing pretty much the same thing on the plane. As for packing, we are also taking mostly shorts (or 3/4 pants for me) and t-shirts, plus 1 pair of jeans, a jumper/jacket (so 2 in total counting the one for the plane), and one more dressy top/shirt each. Plus undies/cossies/hats/socks.

You need a dual voltage hairdryer.

Hhhmm so no hair straightener either!:scared1: the holiday pics are going to be interesting! :rotfl:

Ok so sounds like I'm on track for the packing. Have decided if it's really cold, like today, -1 this morning, we will take coats and my mum who is dropping us at the airport can take them home once we're inside the terminal.

FYI my carryon list includes, spread between all.
Change of clothes each
Some toiletries ( sml moisturizer, lipgloss, hairbrush, tooth brush, Deo)
Wipes
Snap lock bags
Panadolx2 (for us and kids)
DD1 puffer
Chewy lollies
Our knee high snow socks to wear once we're on board.
Some surprise little toys for the girls
The girls DS and pencils and book.
Maybe some small snacks
Girls pillows ( or one at least)
Money, passports, paperwork etc..

We did have a travel hairdryer, (dual voltage), but is pretty useless for styling. Bought a travel straightener, (dual voltage), last time and although I haven't used it my daughters are happy with it. Both cost about $20 each. ;)

I take all necessary cloths lol..., a pair of jeans, 3 to 4 shorts, t-shirts, comfortable shoes and other foot wear etc.

I found out the hard way the first time I went to the USA and lugged a hair dryer that was useless. The straightener worked as it is 110-240 volts. If you have a GHD check the label thingo on the inside and it will have it printed on it.

I found all of the hotels we stayed at had hair dryers that were perfectly adequate. Were they as good as the one i had at home? No. But they did the job properly and i didnt have to worry about lugging one with me plus adaptor or having power issues. I also didnt take a straitener but then again we are a pretty wash and wear kind of family on vacation...

Our clothes dont get pressed or steamed, our hair isnt straitened and we usually only put on a bare foundation for the day and only get made up if we are going out for dinner. We also dont take any jewellery that we dont normally wear on a daily basis and we only take 1 purse. We try for the minimalist approach :)

My GHD hair straightener worked in 3 of the places we stayed, but not the 4th. It says 110-230V

Sammy, bring some headphones that block out cabin noise. Like DJ headphones. It great to watch a movie without hearing people cough and carry on. Problem is the kids kept stealing ours.

You need to go to Ross, marshals, and a premium outlets. That will get you dressed fast.

We are going to be screwed. We have snow at yosemite when we go, then it's mid 20s in LA. :badpc:

Buy a GHD when you get to the US. They are world zoned and they automatically change over voltage. I have a GHD travel pack. The mini hairdryer has to be changed over for voltage, but the straightener is automatic. It's more a worry if you don't change it over when you get home. You can blow the a$$ out if it if it not changed back. Lol.

As I said, buy one in the USA, it will be cheaper to buy one in there.
