We will be going for 5 days and I doubt we will be wanting to do the night time entertainment all 5 nights. I'm wondering what are good things to do during the time when Disneyland is going through the fireworks, parade, and Fantasmic. Or perhaps the better question is how to avoid the crowds from those shows and what rides shut down or become hard to reach. This trip will be my first time using an ecv and I am nervous about being in the big crowds that come with the fireworks and Fantasmic and when there is a mass exodos.

Fantasyland rides begin closing down around 8:30. They reopen at 10:30. Small World stays open.

Other than that, everything stays open. Tomorrowland is great to do during the shows. As is Adventureland and Frontierland although these are harder to navigate). Galaxy's Edge is pretty empty at night. It's also a good option, but RotR closes earlier than the park. Usually by 10pm.

At DCA, everything around the lagoon except Toy Story Midway Mania closes an hour ahead of World of Color. Carsland and Avengers Campus and Hollywood land are great options. Soarin tends to stay busy until park closing.

I was about to post basically the same question as OP. Has anything changed since August, that would change your answer? (Our trip is the week between Christmas and New Year's, if that matters.)

Not a change but more detail than the previous answer in terms of navigable paths: The path between the castle and Matterhorn closes for some fireworks shows but not others. I believe it is closed for both the Christmas season and New Years Eve fireworks but someone with a better memory may be able to confirm.

Fantasy Faire and the main area of Fantasyland up till to the carousel are usually roped off which means that getting between the hub and the back of the park will require going through Frontierland or Tomorrowland. On busy nights which your week will qualify as, the hub may become one way traffic only and many paths getting to/from the hub also become one way only.

Thanks, very helpful! Sounds like we should plan to be within Tomorrowland, Frontierland, or Galaxy's Edge by 8:30, and we'll be ok. My crew will not care if we're "stuck" in one of those areas.

This is not relevant again yet, but did Toontown close early back in the day also? Or close for fireworks? And I wonder if MMRR will change Toontown's operating hours.....

It did close earlier than the rest of the park. I would guess that it might still close early but MMRR would remain open. Kinda like how it will debut without the rest of Toontown.
