My 15yodd is on the "Block Schedule" which means she only takes 4 classes at a time. She has stepped up to take hard classes going into her 10th grade year. :headache: :scared1:  :worship: <-this is God help me.:lmao:

This semester is

Band
Pre-AP Spanish 3
Pre-AP Chemistry
Geometry

Next Semester

Band
Pre-Ap English 2
AP Spanish 4
AP World History

Shelby is going into 9th grade today and has:

French I
Algebra I
World History
Physical Science Honors
Health & Wellness
English I

I hope she is doing okay so far today :worried: :worried:

Well my DD is starting Catholic school for 10th grade so things are a bit different than we are used to. They don't do block scheduling:

1st Semester

Morality
Geometry
AP English
Earth Science (she should have had this in 9th grade but
public school had her in Biology instead)
PE
Spanish II (auditing this class as she had it in 9th grade
but she is "not up to par" for this new school)
Computer Class (HTML)

2nd Semester

Scriptures
Geometry
AP English
Earth Science
Driver's Ed
Spanish II
Computer Class (Microsoft 2003)

My DD is also on block schedules.

This marking period she has:
Intensive Math (Focus on FCAT)
Advanced Government
Reading
Business processes

We haven't got any of her future schedules. She didn't turn in her schedule preferences, so they defaulted her to business. She tried to switch to drama, but they said it was full. They have her in it for next marking period though.

My DS is a junior and he has 7 classes this semester:

College Physics (better him than me :) )
Strength Training
English 3
20th Century American History
German 3
Chemistry
Pre-Calculus

We do a "modified block" system here where the students have all 7 classes on Monday, Tuesday, and Friday, and then have only 3 or 4 of their classes on Wednesday and Thursday. They use the longer class periods for labs, films, tests, etc.

Looks like DS is going to be VERY busy with homework!

DS14 will be starting high school, he had a block schedule in middle school and now has a more traditional schedule. They are on trimesters so first trimester he has:

Earth Science
Fitness and Activity (gym class to the rest of us)
Algebra I
Marching Band
Child Development
Government and Citizenship (social studies)
English

The only thing that changes through the year are his electives, child development, then art, then graphic drawing. He also will have concert band instead of marching band T2 and T3.

First off I have to say I didn't think block schedules were as popular as they seem to be on this board. I thought I might have to explain. That being said my ds is in 10th grade, also on a block schedule.

He has...
Pre-Calc
Marine biology
percussion
symphonic band

Two gravey classes and two tough ones.

We ended block schedules several years ago. I think ours may have worked differently because they took eight classes a semester they only went to each class every other day. (A days and B days)

This year my DD who is in the 11th grade has

Ap English
Ap US History
Chemistry
Algebra II
Symphonic Band
Photography

we have a nine period day on our high school.

younger dd, in 9th grade, is taking:

honors English
honors Global History I
honors Spanish
honors Biology
Math A/B (some weird concotion of algegra, trigonometry and geometry)
gym
chorus

and two electives -- right now she's in public speaking and debate, but those elective may change

older dd, in 11th grade, is taking

English
US History
Spanish
Chemistry
Intermediate Algebra
gym
chorus
reading for the SAT exam
Gourmet foods (unless a spot in driver's ed opens up)

my girls will actually be in two classes together -- chorus and gym

My oldest is a Senior this year. She will be done in Feb (early grad) due to a heavy course load her other three years.

This year she has..

EnglishIV
Government/economics
??Some tech course - can't remember the name but is required
ETI II (elementary teaching internship) this is a two period class. 3 days a week she will actually be interning with an elementary teacher. Upon graduation she will be handed a contract with our school district. Then when she completes college and become a certified teacher she will always have a job with our school district. Even if all they have available is a sub position..she gets full teacher pay and benefits. Ya can't beat that!

DS15 is going into 10th, and doesn't have his schedule yet. He's expecting to have

History (Honors or GT, not sure which)
English (Honors or GT, not sure which)
Chemistry GT
Algebra II
Computer Science (Visual Basic programming)
Spanish 2

I must be missing something; seems to me there should be 7. ETA: Maybe Tech Ed? Forget if that was in addition to computer science or possibly instead. I think it's in addition.

He's also playing football, so he'll have 3 hours of practice a night in addition to homework.

My 9th grader has,

English
Bible
Geography
Biology
Algebra I
Computer

And somehow hes trying to fit football and journalism into one period.

My dd will be a freshman this year. They are on a trimester schedule.

The only schedule they have up so far is for the first one-

Spanish 1
Geometry
Band
Honors Physical Science
Computer for Business and Info Tech

DS starts 10th grade tomorrow. We're on a blocked schedule, which everyone loves, of the A Day/B Day variety, which means that they have their classes every other day (4 one day, 4 another). He has:

G/T English II

AP World History

Chemistry

Algebra II

French III (pre-AP)

Computer Programming (pre-AP)

Gym

Choir

I'm freaking out, because I think it's going to be very hard to him. He had Algebra I and IPC in 8th grade and we had to have a tutor every week because they were very hard for him. Now, here he is with Algebra and Chemistry again. Both are "regular" however (not pre-AP), so maybe he'll do better.

Last year, about 140 of them took AP Human Geography as 9th graders. About 30% got a 5 on the AP exam, about 30% got a 4, about 30% got a 3, and only about 10% got a 1 or 2. DS got a 4 and I was so thrilled for him. I guess that proves that a good teacher can teach them almost anything.

We're on block scheduling here, too.

DD 15, Sophomore, has these classes first semester:

AP English/AP World History (skinny - classes meet every other day)
Weightlifting
Spanish 1
Drawing

Next semester she has:

AP English/AP World History
Honors Geometry
Spanish 2
Honors Chemistry

She seems happy with her schedule so far, she doesn't like her AP World History teacher because he wasn't very good last year. He's also the only teacher of the course so she's stuck with him.

It is going to be a long year AP World History, Plane Geometry, Physics, Honors Journalism, Honors English, French and US Government.

I think US Government and Journalism are semester classes, I can't remember. I'm really worried about him handling Physics and Geometry at the same time. He sucks at Math.

Jen congrats to your daughter!! :cheer2:

So yah I was suppose to get my schedule this morning, but due to some problems, aka our guidence sucks, I wont get it until the 28th. But these are the classes I'm hoping for:

~AP English
~Physics
~Statistics/Probability
~Economics
~Botany
~World History
~Possibly Pre-Calc
~Independent Study AP Environmental Science-hoping for this as our school doesn't offer it as a class.
~German 5- we don't have a teacher as of right now, nor will they let us take it at the local tech :furious: still waiting to here how that will work....
~And I have Portuguese at the tech.
Oh yah and I'm a senior :goodvibes

Younger DS is a senior this year taking:
1st semester:
AP Calculus
Honors envrionemental science
Honors British Literature
Honors creative writing
Management
International studies

2nd Semester:
AP Calculus
Honors Brit Lit
Honors Env. Science
Public Speaking
Honors Mythology
Honors Statistics and probability

Physical Ed and health are thrown in there too. It will be an interesting year. Good luck to all the students.

My DS will be a Junior and is on block scheduling for periods 1-3 then 4-6 these alternate days- he also has what is called Zero period which is before the school day begins every day and is for athletes where they take "sports theory" which is basically weight lifting and conditioning.

Sports Theory
Computers/Health
Spanish 6
a/P Algebra
A/P Chemistry w/ lab 1 night a week at the University
A/P English
A/P History

He will be a busy boy!
