What Christmas song makes you cry?

I too have to agree with "The Christmas Shoes". Another one would be "Soldiers Silent Night" (at least I think that's the name of the song.)

Add me to the list for The Christmas Shoes
Also, Do They Know It's Christmas (what's Live Aid; I remember Barenaked Ladies doing it), Breath of Heaven, My Grown Up Christmas List, and Mary, Did you Know

That Live Aid song that all of those artists did back in the 80's - "Do they know its Christmas time at all..". I dunno but it makes me happy AND sad at the same time.

I remember that song! (showing my age now but I think I still have the lp with that song :))

I love "When my heart finds Christmas" ~ Harry Connick Jr.

Or "Ava Maria" sung by either Harry Connick Jr. or Michael Crawford.

White Christmas sung ONLY by Bing Crosby - not sure why, but the way he sings it makes me cry.

I'll Be Home For Christmas sung by Josh Groban - he includes the soldiers in Iraq talking to their children at home..my mom and I sit there sobbing (it doesn't help that a good friend of mine is in Afghanistan right now).

ok, this thread is making me cry. I just got off the phone with my very depressed sister. This our first year that our family will not be together for Christmas. We moved to Orlando this year, My sister is in Georgia, My brother is in Iowa, my parents are in Illinois and My other brother is in north Georgia. We will all be sitting at home on Christmas. I am trying very hard not to feel sorry for myself. We are lucky that all are healthy and blessed, but I still am feeling blue.

I vote for Blue Christmas/Elvis

I'll be home for Christmas/Carpenters

Have yourself a merry little Christmas/Judy Garland

Any version of "I'll be Home for Christmas", though mainly the older ones.

'Cause I won't, and haven't been for several years. :(

Do they know's Christmas Time. I've had to turn the channel a few times when I hear the opening. Especially these lines...

Pray for the other ones
At Christmastime it's hard, but when you're having fun
There's a world outside your window
And it's a world of dread and fear
Where the only water flowing is the bitter sting of tears
And the Christmas bells that ring there are the clanging
chimes of doom
Well tonight thank God it's them instead of you

And there won't be snow in Africa this Christmastime
The greatest gift they'll get this year is life
(Oooh) Where nothing ever grows
No rain nor rivers flow
Do they know it's Christmastime at all?

That Civil War Christmas song, "I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day" brings me to tears EVERY SINGLE TIME! It shares such feelings of dispair and doubt and then ends with great hope. It flowed from the experiences of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow--which involved the tragic death of his wife and the crippling injury of his son from war wounds. It certainly still stands today, and when sung by Sinatra, well-<sniff, sniff>
Lyrics
I heard the bells on christmas day
Their old familiar carols play,
And wild and sweet the words repeat
Of peace on earth, good will to men.

I thought how, as the day had come,
The belfries of all christendom
Had rolled along th unbroken song
Of peace on earth, good will to men.

And in despair I bowed my head
There is no peace on earth, I said,
For hate is strong and mocks the song
Of peace on earth, good will to men.

Then pealed the bells more loud and deep:
God is not dead, nor doth he sleep;
The wrong shall fail, the right prevail
With peace on earth, good will to men.

Till ringing, singing on its way
The world revolved from night to day,
A voice, a chime, a chant sublime

Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas by Judy Garland. I can listen to this song sung by anyone else and not mist up. But her version can bring me to tears.

I've actually have playlist on the iPod of more upbeat/rock Christmas tunes. Something about Bruce and Jimmy singing Christmas sons that brings a smile to my face. Christmas in the Caribbean....

well, this thread made me tear up--Thanks a bunch (just kidding)

For me, it's Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas (Judy's version especially) and Do They Know it's Christmas (I well remember LiveAid)

Definitely "Have yourself a Merry Little Christmas". The Judy Garland version is the best but I love all of them and think the song is beautiful.

The other one that completely brings me to tears is a song off the old Barbra Streisand Christmas album that she did in the 60's. The name of the song is "The best gift". The best gift is referring to her "tiny newborn child". It was also written by her and was recorded while she was 5 months pregnant with her son, I believe. It brings me to tears every time I hear it, as I'm sure it does most mothers.

OK now you've done it :sad2:

What about Christmas songs that make me happy???

Let's see...Bruce Springstein's version of Santa Claus is Coming to Town & Christmas Wrapping by The Waitresses:

"Bah, humbug!" No, that's too strong
'Cause it is my favorite holiday
But all this year's been a busy blur
Don't think I have the energy

To add to my already mad rush
Just 'cause it's 'tis the season.
The perfect gift for me would be
Completions and connections left from

Last year, ski shop,
Encounter, most interesting.
Had his number but never the time
Most of '81 passed along those lines.

So deck those halls, trim those trees
Raise up cups of Christmas cheer,
I just need to catch my breath,
Christmas by myself this year.

Calendar picture, frozen landscape,
Chilled this room for twenty-four days,
Evergreens, sparkling snow
Get this winter over with!

Flashback to springtime, saw him again,
Would've been good to go for lunch,
Couldn't agree when we were both free,
We tried, we said we'd keep in touch.

Didn't, of course, 'til summertime,
Out to the beach to his boat could I join him?
No, this time it was me,
Sunburn in the third degree.

Now the calendar's just one page
And, of course, I am excited
Tonight's the night, but I've set my mind
Not to do too much about it.

Merry Christmas! Merry Christmas!
But I think I'll miss this one this year.
Merry Christmas! Merry Christmas!
But I think I'll miss this one this year.
Merry Christmas! Merry Christmas!
But I think I'll miss this one this year.
Merry Christmas! Merry Christmas!
But I think I'll miss this one this year.
Hardly dashing through the snow
Cause I bundled up too tight
Last minute have-to-do's
A few cards a few calls
'Cause it's r-s-v-p
No thanks, no party lights
It's Christmas Eve, gonna relax
Turned down all of my invites.

Last fall I had a night to myself,
Same guy called, halloween party,
Waited all night for him to show,
This time his car wouldn't go,

Forget it, it's cold, it's getting late,
Trudge on home to celebrate
In a quiet way, unwind
Doing Christmas right this time.

A&P has provided me
With the world's smallest turkey
Already in the oven, nice and hot
Oh damn! Guess what I forgot?

So on with the boots, back out in the snow
To the only all-night grocery,
When what to my wondering eyes should appear
In the line is that guy I've been chasing all year!

"I'm spending this one alone," he said.
"Need a break; this year's been crazy."
I said, "Me too, but why are you?
You mean you forgot cranberries too?"

Then suddenly we laughed and laughed
Caught on to what was happening
That Christmas magic's brought this tale
To a very happy ending! "

Merry Christmas! Merry Christmas!
Couldn't miss this one this year!
Merry Christmas! Merry Christmas!
Couldn't miss this one this year!

I LOVE "Christmas Wrapping"!!!! :goodvibes Thanks for posting the lyrics....I've tried to figure them all out! :lmao:

Some more of my favorites are: "Jingle Bell Rock" by Hall & Oates, "Rockin Around the Christmas Tree" by Brenda Lee, "Last Christmas" by Wham, "Step Into Christmas" by Elton John, "All I Want for Christmas is You" by Mariah Carey, "Wonderful Christmastime" by Paul McCartney, "Happy Xmas (War is Over)" by John Lennon (yes, even though Yoko Ono screetches through it! :scared1:), "Holly Jolly Christmas" by Burl Ives, "Pretty Paper" by Willie Nelson, and "It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year" by Andy Williams.

P.S. I also LOVE the song that Snow Miser & Heat Miser sing in "A Year Without a anta Claus"!!!!:thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

BUT...I HATE that "Christmas Shoes" song. :headache:

A children's song that I played over and over and over again on my Fisher Price record player: "The Christmas Tree That Ran Away" by The Peter Pan Caroleers. I just found it on iTunes this week, and I've been bawling ever since (even though it has a happy ending)!

It doesn't make me cry PER SAY.....but I love Alvin and The Chipmunks Christmas song :)
