Someone asked me this morning what changes would I like to see in this country. Here are my top 5:

1) Universal health care (obviously the devil is in the details though)

2) Pro-reproductive rights -- getting rid of abstinence-only education, improving education about and access to contraception including the morning after pill, and supporting choice.

3) Force companies to stop underfunding their pensions. Change corporate bankruptcy law to put workers and retirees at the head of the line with respect to their pensions.

4) Improve access to daycare and other pro-family policies.

5) Marriage rights for all.

What are your top 5 things you'd want to change i f you could?

In no particular order:

---More middle class tax breaks
---Marriage and civil rights for gays/lesbians
---Health care overhaul making coverage more affordable
---Cheaper fuel sources and an end to dependence on the Mid-East
---Higher quality public schools

Flat tax and thats for City state and fed.

I think Companies should also pay a flat tax and not get tax breaks for anything.

Term limits for every branch of Gov. With no lobbying or donations run with what you got.

Education should be the biggest spent and monitored system.

THE BIGGEST Tougher LAWS FOR CAREER CRIMINALS Super MAX with just 4 walls and hole.

Why don't you come to Europe, we already got nearly all what you want :thumbsup2
Germany:
1) Got that
2) Got that
3) Got that nearly
4) Working on it, but far from being perfect.
5) We got civil unions for homesexual couples nearly granting them all rights of hetero couples. Giving them full marriage rights is just a matter of some years.

No order:

End of our dependence on foreign oil.
Equal rights for all Americans especially marriage rights for gays.
Better fiscal responsibility.
Politicians who aren't corrupt..woops that'll never happen. :lmao:
An education system that is better monitored so the money pumped into it, is used wisely.
A new President. (sorry couldn't resist!)

Excellent question, though I suspect you are going to take some flack for suggesting that the Good ol' USofA is anything but perfect. :teeth:

My list:

1 - Health care should be a right, never a privilege. The fact that we have people in this country that have to choose between medicine and food is a disgrace.

2 - Term limits on both the executive and legislative branches (judicial should retain their lifetime appointments, so long as they continue to show impartiality).

3 - MUCH more strict enforcement of ethics laws in the legislature and with the executive branch actually being held responsible for gross incompetance. The president is beholden to the law just like everyone else, and no "signing statement" should be able to change that.

4 - A national "Promise Scholarship" program similar to the one we have here in WV. Essentially, any child that shows themselves to be college material by maintaining a 3.0 GPA can attend any state college or university tuition free.

5 - Roll back the idiotic tax breaks the right forced through so that we can pay for all the things we're doing without mortgaging our children's future.

I could go on, but those are the biggies. (At least, they are if you want anything more in-depth than "Impeach the crooks in the white house." ;)

Your list sounds pretty good to me! :) I'll add one more though; Finally getting an administration that actually cares enough about the environment to work with other world countries to lessen pollution and to pass some laws to ensure the next generation in this country has clean air, unpolluted water, and some untouched forest land for our dwindling wildlife to live in.

- affordable alternative fuel
- overhauled public school system (including improving sex education)
- incentives for states to offer more low income housing (in my state the median housing cost and rent cost in the nastiest slummiest towns is twice the median household salary).
- incentives for states to offer affordable day care for middle and lower class.
- marriage rights for everyone
- rehaul of the health care system.

Mine:

1. Healthcare for all. No one should suffer in the United States

2. More concern about the environment. It's the only yard we've got and the lack of interest in keeping it healthy chills me.

3. More tolerance. This is vague but I think that we could be better about this in many ways.

4. Less "it's all about me" attitude. Vague again but hey, this is my fantasy. ;)

5. More protection for workers particularly in Texas. I've learned a lot lately and workers here don't even have to receive bathroom breaks and can be let go for just about any old reason. I dislike legislating the workplace but I've also seen the suffering that can go on when people are just routinely ditched so I would love some type of reasonable balance.
