What can't I use Disney Gift Cards for?

I have no experience with using gift cards. I hope someone can set me straight. My thought process goes like this: Our trip isn't until Oct. 2012, so I thought I would buy a $50 g.c. every paycheck from the DisneyStore online until then, for spending money to pay for our sit down meals, character meals, etc. Maybe an Imagineer lunch/dinner for my DD. Do they accept the g.c.'s for meals, or just souvineers? Thanks!

You should be fine with that. GCs can be used to pay for food, merchandise, rooms and tickets as long as the venue is owned by Disney. There are only a few locations that are not equipped to handle GCs.

I used several large rewards cards a few years ago, they're basically the same as gift cards. The only places we found we couldn't use them were, as another poster said, the places not owned by Disney. That included T-Rex, Rainforest, and a lot of the restaurants and gift shops/carts in World Showcase. Anything that is owned by WDW will accept the cards, including the resorts. Just ask when you walk in, the cm's will tell you if you take them or not. Now that I think about it, we were on the dining plan and used the cards for tips in most of the TS places.

Thank you! This is fabulous news! It always seems, in my case, I put spending money aside, but something comes up and I end up spending it... This way I can't spend a Disney GC on something "non-Disney". Thank you again!

I do this for every trip I don't want to have to pay for my trip when I get home. I start with putting away the amount I think I will need plus a couple hundred more That way when the prices drop I can pay for our trip. I then give the kids GC for birthday and Christmas they know how much they have and need to budget it for the trip. I also put the money I have for tips on a gift card and my Dh and I ea have one for spending money. That way i cant over spend and stick within our budget. I also do this for airfare and the hotel we stay at by the airport. If you can get them at a store that gives rewards you get great rewards.
