DH and I are looking at getting a Flip video camera as our Christmas present this year. We really dont know much about them and need some input about them or other similar video cameras that are HD. We have a 6 month old so we will mainly be using it to take video of her and want it to be compact so we can take it everywhere so we dont miss anything. Thanks in advance.

I'm thinking of getting my DD16 one for christmas. I just started the research. So, I don't know much. I would love to hear a few reviews. The Mino has a rechargeable battery, is smaller vs the ultra which needs batteries. Both has option of 4 and 8 GB, 1 or 2 hours taping time. I've seen some 2nd generation and 3rd generation, not sure what the difference is except for price. I've read a few reviews that state that the usb is defective and does not fit all PCs/Macs. That's about what I know for now. Hope it helps.

try doing a search on the thread- there have been a few discussions of the flip vs. some other similiar models- I did some reading and ended up getting the kodak playsport- similiar in that it's tiny, but the kodak has better user features that I wanted, and they both run about the same price-
Kodak is waterproof-so swimming pictures/video- it has interchangeable memory, uses SD cards which I already have a million of for my other cameras- and the video quality isn't too bad once you get used to using it- not like a full sized camera, but pretty good!

Love the KODAK playsport. Looked at Flip, but Kodak's allowed for a memory card. It also had a larger screen, and it is waterproof.

I bought a flip last year, thanks to the budget board who had posted a $39 link for a 2009 holiday special. For that price I have gotten my money out and then some. It is super easy to use, just flip the switch and record. I plug it into my computer and can store , make a dvd or up load to youtube. I have a blueray with Netfix, Youtube ready. And we have loved watching our youtube flip videos on our screen tv. I can;t say enought good things about it, and for the price I just wish I could find another deal like that and give them to my sisters as X-mas gifts!

I also have the Kodak Playsport and love it! Fabulous value for the money! It uses SD memory cards instead of built in internal memory plus it's waterproof! Additionally, the Flip cameras only offer HD up to 720p whereas the Kodak Playsport shoots in full 1080p.

Any inputs also on the Flip HD Slider & the new Sonny bloggie? :confused3

Costco has discounts for them right now, but offer is good until tomorrow.

I was interested on the bloggie too. It got great reviews on Cnet but other than that I havent found any reviews on it.

Thanks for the input so far! DH told me this afternoon that he like the Sony too so input on that one would be great too. More info on the Flip and Kodak are welcome too.

We got a FLIP last year and we love it. It is so easy our 8 year old is making her own movies, capturing secret moments is her room. I wish it would ZOOM in a little more. But it sure beats lugging around the camcorder.:cool1:

FYI, the Flip Ultra HD does indeed have a rechargable battery...at least the 3rd generation does that I have. It also has the option of taking out the rechargable battery and using 3 AAA batteries instead. I have this one: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0040702HA

Whatever you buy, pay very close attention to the specifications. You should look for resolution, frames per second, how many gigs of memory, etc. Not all flip cams are created equal, and some of them shoot very poor quality video.

I was actually planning buying this one: http://www.amazon.com/Kodak-PlaySpo...a/dp/B0030MITLW/ref=pd_ts_p_3?ie=UTF8&s=photo , mainly because we have a boat and it is waterproof. However, I ended up receiving the 3rd generation Flip Ultra HD as a complimentary item. So far, I really like it. We have a nice Canon camcorder which of course does better quality video, but it's a PITA to pull out all of the time. I find myself using the Flip much more often.

Another vote for the FLIP -- we have two and they are super easy to use, take great pictures and downloading them and making DVD's out of them are a breeze. I have even let my grandkids make vidios with it (ages 5 and 6) and they turned out so well.

Ok we have decided on definately the Flip but which one?? Slide or Ultra??? DH already ruled out the Nino.
Thanks so much!

My soon to be DD12 is interested in making picture videos on you tube. SHe's learning. She asked for an IPOD nano 4th generation but I was if a flip camera would be good too. Not sure if the nano ipod does pictures and videos. But her new hobby is wanting to upload pictures or videos adding music and lyrics. Watcha think? I'll have to look into flip camera and see if these are pricey

OMG, I just logged on to inquire about the FLIP. DD(12) announced that she is only putting 2 items on her Santa list. FYI, Santa brings each child ONE item, so he tries really hard to get them something they wish for.

They do not get items throughout the year, only birthday & Christmas, and of course if they earn money or save birthday money. So Christmas is a special time for them.

This year is extremely tough financially so I am looking for the best deals/sales possible compared to the quality of the items. If I can swing it getting the kids what they wish for, it may very well be the last Christmas in doing so......financially it is SOOOOO hard.

Anyways, I would appreicate information and opinions on the FLIP as to quality, durable, batteries vs lithium pk, ease of uploads, etc.
DD loves to make vidoes. She had gotten quite good at making videos with her American Girls. She makes stop action ones. She has been using my Kodak easy share that has video capabilities. However my camera is pretty old and I don't think will last that long.....and a new one is def not in budget.

Thanks in advance for any and all ideas.
