Other then exchange it for an activated pass at the park?

I am thinking of getting one before our next trip in September so I can have Tables in Wonderland card in hand and book some discounted experiences ahead of time. I know you don't get pass holder magazine or the ability to register for runDisney races unless the pass is activated. The alternative is conference tickets, otherwise we would just wait to upgrade at the park.

I can't speak to ToW or runDisney, but you can book AP discounted rooms even without the voucher as long as you activate the AP before you check in (and sometimes depending on the CM they'll even give you a 24 hour grace period to activate it).

You don't want to get a TiW card early I wouldn't think because it will start immediately and runs out in just over a year.

I booked all my dining res prior to having updated TIW card. Far as Disney knew I was just a regular guest booking dining.

When you do buy your TiW card, buy it as close to the beginning of the month as possible, as it expires on the last day of the next month. For example, ours was purchased on 11/1/2015 and expires 12/31/2016.

I actually thought this was only the case if you bought over the phone, but we bought the card at AK & the CM said, "Today's the best day to buy one of these!" It was a happy surprise.
