What can you do for free at Atlantis? Is it worth going without doing an excursion?

There are so many reports on Atlantis......Getting a room at the comfort suites, doing an excursion.....I was wondering...if we took a taxi over (I've read $4 per person each way)....what could we do there/what can we tour/see....without a pass/bracelet? Can we go to the casino or see a part of the aquarium?

I'm looking forward to reading the responses here, but I have a question of my own.

Why would you need to get a suite if you're staying on the cruise ship?

I know you have to pay admission for the aquarium. I'm sure they would let you into the casino for free, because they'll hope that you spend big $$ there.

Many people get a room for the day so they can have access to the grounds, the aquarium, and the pools and slides.

The pools, waterslides, lazy river, etc are an excellent way to spend the day at Atlantis, especially with children. However, they are only for paying guests at the hotels. Getting a room at the Comfort Suites is less costly than getting a room at the Atlantis hotel and it will give you full access to the grounds.

Entry to the casino is free. In theory the beach is public too; however, you could not use their chairs, umbrellas, etc. and they make it a pain to access. You can take a taxi to the public beach and just walk down the sand to Atlantis.
