I am constantly looking for something fun for my DS14 to do. I think if he goes to the mall, a movie or bowling one more time this winter he'll scream!

I want to keep him busy but what is there to do? Anyone have any fun ideas for a cold day?

My DH and I have the same problem. We can't find anything to do this winter!!!

book store and coffee (or hot chocolate)
Go to Goodwill and browse -some times you find some neat things
volunteer work
State Park -hiking
bike ride

Are you trying to keep him busy because otherwise he'll get in trouble? Something constructive like volunteer work might do the trick.

How about having him read a book?

Happy to say........he is a really good kid and so far has never been in trouble.
I want him to have something to do because he want's something to do.

We do on occasion go and work at the animal shelter. Maybe I could get heim more involved in that. He has bowling on Sat. mornings but the rest of the weekend is usually free.

I was thinking more along the lines of something he can do with his friends.

Occasionally, our DS enjoys doing a model car during the winter when he can't play as many sports, putting it together, painting it, etc. Take him shopping to a hobby shop for the best selection.

Some models are very difficult and intricate as apparently many grown men continue to do them all their lives!

Does he like to cook? Perhaps you can teach him how to bake a cake or brownies. My son loved sewing at that age(!) He made pillows and PJs for awhile there.

Of course, there are always the Boy Scout faves--start a fire and cook outside. Give him some potatos, butter, and chopped up chicken, wrap in foil and cook for about 25min. :thumbsup2

He loves to cook. He and his friend made eggs over easy and susage for breakfast this morning. He is making brownies for me ttoday for his brother's Cub Scout Blue and Gold award meeting tonight.

Love the idea of cooking outside. Maybe he can do that tonight for dinner. We have a fire pit out of the deck. We just did smores and buffalo steaks in Jan when our Uncle was here from San Diego. It was cold out but we had a blst. What teen boy doesn't love fire? :goodvibes

How about organizing a game of tag football or baseball or somthing like that? They are young! They can handle the cold!!!

How about a Board Game Night or Afternoon with his friends? Ask everyone to bring $5 to chip in on pizza. You could provide some 2 liter bottles of soda and a couple large bags of chips. It would be something that most of them haven't done lately and could be pretty entertaining!

I was going to suggest something similar ~

Instead of having everyone bring money, ask them to bring their favorite game and their favorite snack. (That goes over much better than coughing up cash.) Everyone has something laying around they could contribute. Then order a sheet pizza, much more economical.

One tme i started cleaning out the old toy closet where cars, racetracks etc. hadn't been touched for years. DS and friends were thrilled to pull out everything and somewhat *play* with them again, although they'd never admit to it!

Enjoy your day!

Get him on a skateboard, a bike, rollerblades or an indo board maybe :confused3

The INDO board (you may not recognize) is a balance trainer and can safely be used indoors for inclement weather. ~If you want to see one online google a company called Dregs or INDOboard~

I work for a specialty sporting goods store in NJ and these are the most popular things for the kids in my area to do.

Thanks to everyone for your ideas. They ahve been inspiring!

I did suggest a party/game night tonight. We may be able to pull that one off. I'm going to get right on that.

My DS14 does go outside a lot. He loves to skateboard and ride his bike. Today there is a bit of snow on the culdisac and lots of salt so that won't work for today.

We live kind of far out and there are not enough kids to play tag football and such. When we have friends over we have to drive to go get them or the kids parents bring them over. A lot of DS14 friend's don't get along. My son can get along with anyone so he has many kinds of friends. Unfortunatly a lot of his friends don't like each other.

Keep the ideas coming. They are all great!

Thank you!

I have researched these and I will be ordering one for my DS14's birthday. We've had one broken wrist and two borken elbows. DS can use all the balance help he can get!!

Thanks for the idea. They do look cool!

I wish I had that problem. I have to go to the state quarter finals for basketball today. Hour there, hour back, boring game inbetween. Man, being a band geek is rough sometimes.

My personal favorite is a mani/pedi party, but I'm thinking that wouldn't go over too well with your DS ;)

I like the idea of a board game night! Either that, or you could make him clean :teeth:

We've had our share of weekend's like that (DS is in orchestra and has traveled exstensivley with a local Boychoir). I was just looking for ideas that are fun for our down time.

The mani/pedi sounds good to me- for me! :thumbsup2

We do go snow tubing at a local ski area and my DS14 is an avid skier. The problem with the sking is that his friends do not have passes to ski so it can get very pricey like around $70. Most of DS's friends don't have money like that. My DS has a pass but it's hard to find someone to go with and it's not all that fun alone or with your mom, dad or brother and sister.

Thanks for the ideas!

Is there an RC shop near you?? My husband is an avid RC'er (remote control trucks, buggies, drag cars, etc) and there is a shop nearby that has an indoor 'track'. He says there are a lot of teenagers that hang out there.

My DS is 13 and loves playing at games workshop. It is in the mall. The kids make models like Lord of the Rings characters etc and paint them. They make stages, forts, battlefileds and have battles. It is like Risk.
How about Letterboxing. It is like geocaching with a compass not a GPS and it is treasure hunting.Pretty cool, I also signed him up for tae Kwon Do.He has already got jr black belt in just 3 yrs.I got a refurb Dance revolution game and that keeps him busy too.
