What can my in-laws do when they stay at the Yacht Club NYE?

As a Christmas gift, DH and I will give his parents one overnight stay at the Yacht Club. As things turned out, they'll be in the area for Christmas week and have decided to stay at the YC on New Year's Eve. There will be 3 other people in their party, too. So it's a total of 5 people, ages 35 - 70.

I am going to urge the group to avoid the parks on NYE and NYD. I'm just convinced that they don't have the budget, the temperment or the fitness required to enjoy the parks on those busy, crowded days.

So, I need suggestions for what else they could do. This group is NOT into planning and scheduling. Nor are they likely to just explore on their own. (Kind of a wierd combo, I know. Basically, they like to have somebody else make exciting arrangements for them; then they just "go with the flow.") All I've come up with mini golf, a pontoon or Breathless cruise, and DTD.

They've never stayed at a Disney resort, either. In 30 years of visiting WDW they've only done day trips from St. Pete. I think the YC will "wow" them. But, on the other hand, since they don't believe WDW has anything to offer beside the parks, I get the feeling they're skeptical about my "STAY AWAY FROM THE PARKS PLEA."

I hope this makes sense. Any suggestions? Advice?

TIA

Would they enjoy Hoop Dee Doo? I think it is a good choice for NYE for those who want to avoid the parks. We've done it twice on NYE. :cool1:

One year we avoided the parks on New Year's Eve. Some of us went shopping at the outlets, the rest went miniature golfing and a looonnnngggg walk around Crescent Lake at the Epcot resorts. I say long because they literally stopped and saw every different tree and flower.

This past New Year's Eve, we bit the bullet and tackled Animal Kingdom. It wasn't that bad. Then we split up with some of the party going to MGM. They said it wasn't bad at all. They thought maybe since ABC concentrated on Magic Kingdom, MGM was relatively quiet. Also, around 5:00 or so, they started handing out party hats and things like that.

No matter what they decide, at midnight, make sure they are on the bridge in between the Boardwalk and the Beach Club. They'll be able to see the Epcot fireworks.

Also, I highly suggest you re-think going to a park on New Year's Day. My daughter-in-law said Epcot resembled a ghost town.

We go every New Years. They do start with Magic Kingdom closing parks down for crowds on NYE. We leave the teens go to hotel and watch fireworks. I suggest make some great dinner reservations as soon as allowed also. But New Year day it is not so crowded. A lot leave or go to bowl games .
