What can I not bring on plane?

It has been forever since I have been on a plane and some much has changed. For anyone that has flown recently, I know I can't bring sharp object but what about blunt baby scissors or nail clippers? I'm trying to avoid checking luggage if manageable.

Read carefully--there are things you can take on checked baggage and not in stuff you carry on to the plane. Make sure to click on the "travel preparation" link--they have all the info about the easiest way to pack stuff for a smooth time at the airport.

IIRC, nail clippers are okay to bring on the plane. I'm 99% sure I had them last trip and we don't check our bags.

I didn't realize that tools were not allowed in carry on luggage. Once they found and confiscated a tape measure (with metal tape). Fortunately for me it was a small old decrepit one. I actually use that when on vacation, including taking measurements of things at WDW.

For many years I have carried a pocket knife to trim hangnails. Now I will have to use the nurse station at the parks.

It also depends on the airport, no matter what the TSA is saying this week. I had a sealed cheese slicer denied entry so I had to check my bag.

Sometimes they allow nailclippers, sometimes only if the tiny file is removed. Some airports dont even stock plastic knives but others do.

The news said we don't have to remove our shoes anymore to have a "consistent policy" nationwide. Not true. When flying out of Onterio, CA on SWA we were told by TSA agents that they cant tell people to take their shoes off but if they dont they are pulled for screening and then you have to take off your shoes anyway. Bottom line - Onterio makes you take your shoes off. There is NO 100% consistent policy with what is allowed on planes or screening through-out the US.
