What can I expect when checking in?

As an owner, will I need to provide a credit card when checking in if everything is already paid for? Do they put a hold on it or do they just keep the number for any charges?

You only have to supply a credit card if you want charging privileges on your room keys. They only verify that it is an active account, they do not place any sort of hold amount on the card. However, if the charges reach $1500, it will be charged out, or it will be charged out on the morning you check-out.

oh thats great - can I use my MasterCard debit card instead or does it have to be a credit card?

I would suggest always using your Credit Card, it is safer and in the event of a problem, much less of a hassle.

good point...what if I want to use my debit instead of my cc to pay for it in the end? Will they allow me to switch out the payment form? Can you tell I am not trying to use any cc's? :rotfl:

Go to the front desk the night before you check-out, or brfore you reach the $1500 charge out limit. You can pay the balance with your debit card. Any remaining balance on the room will be charged out on the morning of check-out, about 6am, when the resort computers switch put to the new day.

You could also try a pre paid CC. Amex even makes travelers checks but it is actually in the form of an AMEX card. Or, before the trip or before checkout, you can "pay down" the amount on your Credit Card so that when the charge hits, it has a net zero impact.

I understand an aversion to using credit cards, but they do have their place and this is one of those times. You could also just make sure you immediately make a full payment to the CC after the trip.

Or even better - just don't use the charging privileges on the room, then you never have to give it to anyone. Use cash, traveler's checks, pre paid cards, cc, everywhere else when you buy stuff.
