What can I eat during races that doesn't require chewing?

During your walk break, take the braces out. Hold then while you eat something. Rinse your mouth. Put braces back in. Start running again.

Maybe at the water stations I can do that...I don't plan on carrying water (esp for the full) because I want to be as light as possible. There are plenty of water stops...so before I reach one I could do that.

Do they have Clif gels at the Princess Half, too? I'm a newbie to the whole RunDisney thing and didn't even realize they would have anything. :)

I think it's a great idea to train with whatever is there - do you guys know what kinds they typically have (with it without caffeine)? I have a sensitive tummy, so I'd like to test it out to make sure it'll work for me. I use Nuun and had planned on bringing a couple of halved tablets with me to add to water if needed, and occasionally use Honey Stingers, but am not totally sold on them.

I'd like to see if anyone here knows of a gel other than VegaOne that doesnt have maltodextrin. That stuff makes my bowels angry :/

Honey Stinger? I think the energy source is just honey.

Nope has maltodextrin too. Its the bain of my existance. I used to buy clif shots until they changed the formula 3 years ago. That was the last straw for me and I will never buy another clif product or use them again even though their chews worked ok in the past for me. Clif had changed/discontinued 2 other well selling products prior to this and were fairly jerkish when I called to complain about the gels. They tried to tell me their maltodextrin was different and organic so I should be able to digest it. Maltodextrin is completely unnatural its made in a lab by heating corn syrup or other sugar to a super high temp that hydrolosizes the sugar. This breaks the carbon bonds and reforms them creating a longer chained carbohydrate/sugar molecule. It is not easy to digest especially if you have gastric dumping issues like crohns or celiac you can't digest it at all. The first bond in maltodextrin has to be broken in the stomach by the acid there, if it isn't done there your intestines can't break it down which causes your system to flush due to not being able to absorb it. It isnt pleasant. I also react to corn syrup but that my system ejects the other way so sports drinks are a bear too. My go to method is pedialyte and sports beans.

Is it one of those things that masquerades under another name? Because here are the ingredients for the classic Honey Stinger from their website: Honey, pure water, potassium citrate, salt, niacinamide (Vit B3), calcium pantothenate (Vit B5), pyridoxine hydrochloride (Vit B6), riboflavin (Vit B2), thiamine mononitrate (Vit B1), cyanocobalamin (Vit B12).

I didn't check the other flavors. It would be frustrating to have to deal with hidden ingredients.

Also, the Island Boost that I referenced earlier in the thread has glucose and fructose (not HFCS) as the main ingredients, as well as coconut water and various fruit juices. I'm not sure if the sources of the sugars are an issue for you, but it might be worth looking into. http://www.islandboost.com/index.php/nutrition

Another Island Boost fan here. Easy to take in and doesn't make me nauseous or crampy like Gu and Clif and Sports beans do.
