What Can I Do With A Golf Cart?

We have never been to Disney before (my wife and I). We plan on staying at FW for 13 nights in our RV. If we rent a golf cart, what can we do with it? Can we only drive within FW? For example, can we ride to MK of Epcot? Instead of waiting for a bus can we drive to parks instead?

You can only drive your golf cartwithin FW. They are not allowed out on the main roads around WDW.

What it will mostly do is help manage how big the Fort is. Instead of waiting for a bus (which you can certainly do - they'll get you where you need to go) you can hop in your cart an buzz over to the Settlement area where Trails End and the HDDR is located, park by the marina to grab a boat to MK, zip to the Meadows Trading Post to do a little shopping or pick up some supplies, hop over to the pool or go to the Outpost bus stop where you can grab a bus to AK, EP, HS or DTD.

The Fort is really huge (map HERE) and having a cart makes it all much more accessible IMO. Plus going "looping" - where you just take a cruise around the various camping/cabin loops, is a fun, relaxing way to spend some time sight seeing. :thumbsup2

Lots of golf cart info HERE.

Can you? I'm sure you can... may you? No siree! Carts are only intended for use inside Fort Wilderness.

(ah, my 3rd Grade English teacher would be proud that at least one lesson took!)

Having a cart makes the Fort a lot more fun! :drive:

Looping is the best Fort activity as long as you bring a cold drink along with you :drinking1

Just be sure that you stay off of the horse trails and unrestricted areas so the po po doesnt come after you! :rotfl2:

Actually, a year or two ago there was someone there with a road legal golf cart. It had a license and seemed to be fitted with bigger engine/tires. We actually saw it out of the fort going down world drive one day.

you wouldn't get very far with an electric cart........

I know I still have some time to decide if I want or am able to fork out the money for a golf cart. The kids and I will be fine to bike....the flat land will be a nice change to the hills we are used to. It's my Mom I am worried about. She doesn't get around well. Because they are pulling their camper down for us, I have offered to pay for everything else. I just need to decide if we're going to eat while we're there or get a golf cart?:lmao: I've heard you can stick around the grounds while everyone is at the park and find all kinds of free food...that could be an option. Will I find enough to feed 5-6 people? Will I be discovered by the end of the week? Lots to ponder. I am also trying to save up for another trip to the Fort for January. Because I will have more time to save between now and then, maybe I'll forego the golf cart (and eat) in Septmber and rent a golf cart (and eat) in January. Is that a good plan?

Don't forget to check out the off-site rental companies - much cheaper than Disney GC rental rates! Info in THIS THREAD

I have checked out the other companies and they are less expensive than Disney. If I can save enough money to get the golf cart AND gorceries, I'll do both. If not, I'll just get groceries. Right now, I would rather have the money to go back to the Fort in January without the GC this trip than to have the GC this trip and not be able to afford the January trip. I know it's just $200+, but we pay cash for everything so sometimes that means sacrificing something.
Now if I knew my Mom was going to hate the Fort and NEVER go back, I would go on and get the GC in September and go all out for her. But, I just REALLY, REALLY think she is going to LOVE it so I am kind of thinking that we are going to be making more trips. It's kind of like staying at the GF in the presidential suite (or whatever it might be called...you know the room that is $3000 a night), then going back the next year and getting a non-preferred room at ASMo. Am I making any sense? I am trying to have something to look forward to.

Not 100% sure about Florida laws, but NEV's (Neighborhood Electric Vehicles, basically a street legal golf cart) are usually restricted by law to roads with a posted speed limit of 35 MPH or less. Since most WDW roads (including the one in front of the Fort) are posted at 40 MPH or higher, you can't drive an NEV anywhere on WDW property, except for the Fort itself. Which is too bad, it would be kind of fun to take the cart to the other parks & resorts. Maybe they'll add golf cart trails to WDW... :lmao:

If the budget is too tight to rent an off-site cart, just request a site near to transportation and note that it is due to physical limitations. You will find the bus system perfectly workable if you exercise a modicum of patience.

Yeah, that's in the works for right after they finish the monorail line to Animal Kingdom, and the maglev to the airport.

Thanks Shan-man. I have requested loop 1700. I can't tell squat from this rinky-dink map I have. It looks like the internal transportaion is not really "close". We want to be secluded, but I believe you've already told me that seclusion and convenience don't really go together at the Fort. (Though the way you originally said it was much more eloquent and intellectual sounding than that.:))
I don't want my parents to have to spend one dime on this trip. They do so much for us and this is kind of a "thank you" to them.
It's a good thing this trip is not next week. I have many decisions to make.:scared1:

Things you can do with a golf cart:

Ride around drunk
Ride around poking small children with long sticks
Ride around looking for bunnies to run over
Ride around looking for grannies to run over
Pull up next to people who are walking and offer them a ride, then speed off when they attempt to get in
Pull up next to kids on bikes...then offer them candy
Park next to a tree, lay on the ground next to it with ketchup on your face and see if anyone calls 911
See how long you can sit in it while parked on the pier for the Magic Kingdom boat before the mickey police come'a runnin ya off!!
drive it into the lake and see how many times you can spell MISSISSIPPI before its completely underwater.
Stand next to it while wearing an obscenely skimpy Speedo, and ask passers by to snap your picture posing next to it.
Drive around screaming ITS A SMALL CAR AFTER ALL.
Tie beer cans to the back of it, shoe polish JUST MARRIED on the windshield and have a blow up latex sheep as your passenger.
Drive one 5mph in front of the Disney busses, pretending to be deaf and blind for at least 6 city blocks(my personal favorite).
Drive it naked at midnight. (best done in the spring and summer months)

There are endless possibilities to having fun in a golf cart at the fort, just use your imagination and prey on the innocent!
