What can be used instead of a ham bone for bean soup?

I always use ham hocks. Just throw them in with the beans and when the pot is close to being done, scoop them out, shred the ham off the bone to add back to your pot and you're good to go.

Yum, I know I have ham hocks in the freezer, so I think I'll make a pot of beans this week.

Do you have a Honey baked Ham store close by? They sell ham bones for about 6 dollars and it usually full of meat.

I usually buy center cut bacon for my pea soup. I cut it up and fry it first then throw it in the pot of soup.
