So I have been searching around for 2 days looking for a camera and I think I have it narrowed down to 2 cameras. They are both Canon and 1 is the T2I and one is the T3I. I am very new to this so I am not sure what I need and don't need. I found them both for $849 each but the T2I comes with an extra lens. Below is a listing of what comes with both could someone please let me know which of the 2 cameras is better, Which package is better (do I really need that extra lens?) and is this a good price for them?

"Better" is subjective but in this case the two cameras are so similar that it is easy to point out the few differences. This website shows the changes:
http://dpreview.com/reviews/canoneos600d/

The biggest difference is the articulated screen on the T3i. This is nice for live view but Canon's live view is of limited usefulness to me. To clear up one point, image quality is identical (and it is essentially identical to Canon's 60D and 7D as well).

Many people quickly want a longer lens and Canon's 55-250 is a good match for their 18-55. It is usually best to start out with the 18-55 and see if your photo style indicates you need (or just want) a longer lens. In this case you have to decide up front, it may come down to whether you expect to want to use a long lens to get "closer" to a distant subject. I use my 70-200 a lot, DW rarely uses her 55-250.

Either one is a good camera but my guess is you will want the 55-250 soon anyway. ;)

the newer T3i (600D) offers a few more features than the T2i (550D) which is still pretty good. I would be more inclined to get the older T2i model with 18-55IS and 55-250IS lens but I hear the articulating swivel screen is useful for video

I got a dSLR before my WDW adventure (Canon 60d). It came with a 18-135is and a 55-250is. I only used the 55-250 once, at AK, on the safari, in the rain. I really could have gotten by without it. I would go for a better body (55-250 is not that expensive)... but I AM NOT A PRO.

I was faced with the same decision not too long ago. I chose the t2i with the extra lens. It really depends on how you plan to use the camera. The t3i has better features for video, the articulating screen and a few extra "scene" presets for the camera mode.

The important parts, sensor, focus, view finder etc. are pretty much the same.

We chose the t2i because the video is not that important to us, and we wanted the extra lens.

I don't think you can really make a wrong decision here. Either way, learn how to take great exposures and enjoy!

I'd go with the T2i and the second lens. You're not gaining much with the T3i, unless that articulated screen is really important to you. Your image quality will be the same with both cameras since they both use the same sensor and image processor.

Go with the T3i. I own it and love it. I can't imagine not having the articulated screen. You could always buy a lens.......T3i all the way!!!!!

Who is offering these packages? There a lot of "bait-and-switch" scam sites online that offer what appear to be attractive packages but when you order, the merchandise is "out-of-stock" and they try to upsell you. Before you buy, go to Resellerratings.com and check out the store.

Also, items like the strap, USB cable, AV cable, battery, battery charger, EOS Digital Solutions Disc are included with every camera Canon sells. You should never be charged extra for these items.

.

at $849 it's not likely to be a bait and switch place but for sure check out resellerratings. You can buy the T2i (550D) from the Canon direct store for $550 or $650 with the 18-55IS lens
