My dd is going to be in 7th grade and is going to a new school. She asked me yesterday if we could go shopping for some new clothes. I have no clue what brands are popular with 7th grade girls. She has never really liked Justice. We already got jeans and jean capris at Old Navy. I'd like to get her some short sleeve shirts, hoodies, etc. She is also running cross country this school year and we were looking for some running shorts over the weekend. So many things were pink and DD doesn't like pink. I would love any advice. She wears a girl/child size 12 for the most part.

I would let her start with what she has or add just a few things and let her see what the style is at her new school. It can varry so much and she will want to see what the other girls wear.

DD12 wears w.h.o r. U., 7FAMK jeans, 77kids, ps aeropostale, roxy and whatever appeals to her from target, nordstrom etc.

Cute, fairly inexpensive clothing. Some of the other girls wear Abercrombie, but I'm not paying those kind of prices!

Areopastle (sp??) is very popular here with middle schoolers. I teach 7th grade.

My DD in 8th grade is picky, but not too picky. She will wear clothes from anywhere as long as she likes it. So Target and Kohls work for her. Her favorites would be Hollister, Pink and American Eagle. We live outside of Chicago and I would say that seems to be the norm for the other kids she knows.

DD is going into 7th grade too. She likes to shop at Hollister, Abercrombie, Hot Topic, and Aeropostale for shirts. She is small for her age so can't fit into the pants at any of those stores. So, for pants we go to the Gap.

My dd got most of her 7th grade clothes at Aeropostale. They have cute stuff and great sales and clearance. She also likes Hollister and American Eagle, but they tend to be much more expensive, so we don't buy from them unless it's from the clearance rack.

Yes, dd mentioned shopping at Aeropostale. Do they have smaller sizes? DD 16 shops there and American Eagle but DD 12 is a lot smaller. Any ideas of where to get good prices and variety on running clothes? And does anyone know what running tights are? The Cross Country coach mentioned those.

Sale items from Aero, Hollister, Abercrombie (if she is small, try Abercrombie Kids if its in your area or online-costs less than regular Abercrombie), Pac Sun, Gap (some stuff is too babyish), Nordstroms & some tops from Target.

Right now she is into name-brand skinny jeans but will buy tops almost anywhere. Every kid i know wears a tank top underneath their shirt(not sure why) Shirts with pictures of food and a saying are big now here at least.

Shoes: vans/converse/uggs, dressy shoes from either target or payless

Ditto! Mine also likes some of the Pink stuff from Victoria's Secret.

They carry size 00 jeans and XS tops. My dd is very thin, but didn't really fit in girls sizes very well, so that was another advantage to Aero. If your dd still takes kids' sizes there's a PS Aeropostale chain which carries those sizes. And sign up for the emails from these stores and they occasionally send coupons or promotions.

I agree with the PP who suggested to start her with a couple/few outfits, then to see what others wear. Last year, the stores were showing all kinds of scarves. We bought some, and our DD never wore them. She said that nobody ever did.

Our DD is slim and wears a 12 slim at Justice and Abercrombie kids. 7th graders get teased for wearing Justice clothers at her school, so we had to cut out the tags from the ones that she still wears.:rolleyes1 Abercrombie Kids has great prices on clearance items, and there seems to be a good selection of them whenever we go there. She just now fits into some 00 jeans at AE, which is good because the's tall, but the 00's at Aeropostle are cut "hippier" and fall down. Aeropostle tops seem to run smaller, and American Eagle tops run larger:confused3. Old Navy and Target clothes run wide. Girls wear camis under alsomst everything up here. Many girls straighten their hair here, too. Converse sneakers are huge right now. Many like to order them online and customize them.

Good luck!:thumbsup2

DD12 (going into 7th grade tomorrow!) will wear pretty much anything from anywhere, as long as she likes how it looks, but we get most of her stuff at jcpenney (they have really cute stuff!), american eagle, and aeropostale. no abercrombie here. we get her jeans at old navy, because they fit her better (she's sort of hippy, like me). my grandmother buys her some clothes now and then, and usually gets them at cato, because that's the only store in her little town besides wal-mart and k-mart.

My daughter just finished 7th grade back in late June. She wore a lot of Aeropostale, with some American Eagle and other things. She had great luck at Plato's Closet as well. Most of her wardrobe was pretty much Aero, AE, and she even had some items that she picked up at Kohl's, Target. She also likes Hollister.

My dd is going into 7th grade this year too and her favorite stores are Aeropostale and Hollister. We can only get top for her there because she doiesn't fit into their jeans yet. We get them at Old Navy and Justice. I know she'll wear tops from ON but I don't think she will want any from Justice this year.

Aero, American Eagle, Hollister here..
Brand wise also Bench, Lululemon, Roxy and Hurley.

My dd is 5 and Justice is all she wants to wear because that is what the other kids are wearing...when does Justice become not "cool"?

I second getting just a few outfits and waiting until after school starts. My daughter seconds the "no Justice" items. She's really more interested, however in the cuteness factor than where the clothes come from. She loathes Hollister and AE. But it is still a popular choice with a lot of the kids up here. She likes Volcom jeans (we get them at the outlet), and she has found ones she likes at Old Navy, Target and even Walmart. She likes t-shirts from Hot Topic, Pac Sun, Target and again found several Beatles ones that she loves from Walmart. She also likes to go thrifting with one of her friends. . .Goodwill. . .some retro resale shops, etc. When it comes to shoes, she likes Converse, Doc Martins, Vans and a new one for her this year is World Industries.

I'm thinking it was right around 6th grade. . .It was still Limited II for us. . .my daughter wanted everything from there. . .to NOT wanting anything from there in a heartbeat. I was relieved. . .so overpriced.
