What brand pencils do you purchase for school?

Cheapy pencils don't have the lead centered in the pencil. As a PP said, they don't sharpen correctly. All of those cute holiday pencils, birthday pencils, etc. are junk! You can sharpen them and they leave the wood on one side of the lead--frustrating!! Ticonderoga all the way for us!

I couldn't care less, but I think it is hilarious that there are THREE pages of responses to what pencil brand people use. :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Well...if you had a class of 24 kids sitting in front of you and they are trying to get their pencils to sharpen so they can do so math, you would probably care.

Otherwise, I understand why this is a silly thread!

What brand pencils do you purchase for school? I just purchased my first pack of Ticonderoga pencils yesterday. They sharpened so well and wrote very nice. Downside they are very, very pricey. I see they are a Dixon product. There is also a Dixon pencil. Also, what about the Mirado brand? I have some paper mates left from last year that we have not used. I do not like the sparkly and plastic cover design pencils as they do not sharpen. So back to my original question. What pencil is worth the money and will not get "eaten" by the second day of school?

Wow, glad to see ds13 is not the only pencil snob. :lmao: A few years ago, he tried a Ticonderoga and loved them. How they write, sharpen, etc. He told me the others are just cheap 'goodie bag' pencils. I thought he was a bit strange at the time until we bought a box. Then I could totally understand what he's talking about. Honestly, I had so rarely used a pencil in so many years, I never had noticed how cheap modern pencils are. Another sign of the times of crap imported from China. :sad2:

Anyhoo, now that's all we buy.

Mirado box 72 at Sams club .Paper mate for little ones.We get big boxes High school child as his friends never have pencils so we share get through lots of these boxes of72 a year also send in extra during testing.:cool1::cool1::cool1:

It's a pencil.... whatever is cheapest.

We don't have a choice- the teachers ask that ONLY Ticonderoga pencils be sent in to use. Up until this year from K-5 she has always used a mechanical pencil- I find them to be much easier than a regualr pencil but in JHS they want Ticonderoga only so she will use those in school and mechanical ones at home for homework.

From a completely different perspective here, I use Ticonderoga #3 pencils. As a piano teacher who's students do alot of theory work, the fact that I sharpen my pencil one a week is a great. They keep a great point and last forever.

However, I do have to guard them with my life and not loan them out. All I need is for a student to take one to school and fail a state test b/c their pencil marks don't show up. :scared1:

It took me 3 years to use one box. My DH, who thinks he's funny, bought me 5 boxes for Valentines day. Guess I raved about the pencils a little too much.:rotfl:

Whatever Staples has as their 10 pencils for .01 sale, that is what we get! :thumbsup2

Same here, when the Staples pencils run out, then the nickel Office Max are used, followed by the Office Depot ones. All for less than 1 "name brand" pencil.
