What brand of dog food do you feed your dog?

i feel like I'm always posting about my dogs being sick. My shih tzu mix is ill with yet another bout of diarrhea. Just when we think we have a handle on what is making her sick, it starts up again. The vet has never been able to pinpoint a cause. She's been on the same dog food her whole life, but both dogs just have seemed to have looser stools lately, so I'm thinking its time to ditch the dog food for a new one.

The online reviews of, say, the "top ten dog foods" are so mixed, with some reviewers saying it's the best thing ever for their dog, and the others saying it's akin to poison. Thought I'd start here and see what you all have successfully fed your healthy dogs!

I have a shih tzu/bichon mix. She has a sensitive stomach although her issue was typically vomiting, but she did have some diarrhea at times. Our vet recommended Royal Canin special which is for sensitive stomachs and that helped a lot. Not a cure-all, but definitely helped.

Orijen and I’ll crumble a quarter of a Primal nugget on top of it.

If my dog gets any table scraps, she’ll throw up or get diarrhea so you may want to look at eliminating people food.

I totally get what you're saying. It can be confusing. And challenging to find a food your dog(s) like and stay healthy on. There are so many recalls, sometimes from even the "best rated" foods, and lots of stories out there about dogs getting sick. We now have to worry about germs (including in raw), melamine with ingredients from China (especially in treats), pentobarbital (the euthanasia drug), and the latest concern - claims that some of the "grain free" ingredients may be causing cardiomyopathy in dogs. So its a challenge to keep up.

I follow this site as a resource, and get emails when there are product recalls.

Blue Buffalo. Specifically, the Wilderness Chicken kibble.

The 8-month-old lab gets the Large Breed Puppy, the 3-year-old border-beagle gets the Adult.

Wellness Chicken Weight Control. My golden retriever has had tummy issues from the get go. This seems to really agree with him. Just be careful when switching food. Do it slowly!!! Add a bit of the new to his old food, increasing the amount of new food, lessening the old food, over a week to 10 days.
When he has active tummy issues, he gets canned pumpkin..just plain!!! A scoop of that on top of his food and it really helps.

I almost had a melt down when I saw that. It's damn near impossible to pick a food with all the conflicting information.

Our little yorkie was the runt of the litter and almost died when we first got her because she refused to eat just about everything we tried. We finally go her to eating shredded boiled chicken then found the Pet Smart Nutro brand of toy breed dry food that she will eat. She won't eat any other kind of their food other than the toy breed, it's a size thing for her. We also give her a small bowl of Fresh Pet wet food in the morning. She will only eat chicken dog food and won't eat any kind of dog treat so we have to use beef jerkey for that.

4Health. It's from Tractor Supply. One of my dogs needs grain free or she stinks so I'm glad I found 4Health. It's not super expensive and they have grain free.

I used to feed my dog Blue Buffalo grain free but then she kind of stopped eating it so I grabbed some Nutrish at the grocery store because that was the only thing in a grain free option. She seems to like that for the time being so that is what I am feeding her.
I'm not going to get overly worried about the grain free at this point, they have no conclusive data (yet) there is a link between that and cardiomyopathy but it is definitely something I will be following as more research comes out. Thanks @Pea-n-Me for mentioning that.

I feed our dogs Fromm's. It's made by a local company, but sold in some pet stores and online.
The bichon/shih tsu mix eats their small breed formula.
Our white lab eats the chicken au fromage grain-free formula.

Spoiled Golden Retriever with a very sensitive stomach and chicken/winged creature allergy here.

She gets dehydrated raw with water (Canisource Beef, Pork or Fish) for breakfast, her free feed kibble is Holistic Select, has lots of probiotics and digestive enzymes (Lamb or Fish). We mix up the flavours so she doesn't get bored. :dogdance:

Our GSD has a very sensitive stomach and we've gone through several brands before finding something that agrees with his tummy and our budget. I really loved the Fromm's lamb and lentil but we were spending $150+ a month to feed our dogs Fromm's so I decided to try some other types. We landed on Canidae Lamb & Rice all life stages. It's a bit cheaper and Gris's tummy seems to be handling it well.

We used to feed Acana Lamb and Apple, but about 2 years ago they switched the formula and source for the lamb (the local pet food shop told us this when she stopped selling Acana due to this change). That change in formula caused GI issues. It might be worthwhile to check the food you have been feeding to see if there has been a change in formula or sourcing for major components.

Good luck!

OP, out of curiosity, what brand do you currently feed your dog that is causing this issue? My Pomeranian has a sensitive stomach, but we've fed him Eukanuba small bite since he was a puppy. Just within the last few months, he's had small, brief bouts with diarrhea seemingly out of nowhere. Not sure if its from the food but we don't feed him many treats or people food. Also considering changing his brand, but will have to ease him into it.
