What "branch" of the state do I call?

A family member had 4 surgeries and extensive physical therapy to correct bilateral club feet in the fifties and early sixties. His surgeon at that time told his family that he would be in a wheelchair by age 35. He's now 61 and no wheelchair, but he's beginning to have a few problems being on his feet for extended periods of time. He recalls receiving a letter *many years ago* and believes it was from the state of FL stating if he needed help concerning employment to contact them. He can't recall exactly WHO the letter was from but does need help concerning his current employment. PLEASE, who does he call?

most likely it was Vocational Rehabilitation or the Bureau of Rehabilitative Services...

i am currently working with them in CT, and they are very helpful!

Nope. Phoned them and was told they intervene ONLY if the person needs help gaining employment or has been terminated from employment due to a disability. I've spent all morning being "on hold" and being sent from agency to agency. This is more an issue with an employee being "harassed" by an employer due to his disability.

Update: Was finally directed to JAN (Job Accommodation Network) who was able to tell me exactly what to do and how to do it. Awesome people there!

He is still going 26 years after doctors thought he would last. See proof about doctors, lol. Yes, I do not like doctors that much.

Yes, Churchlady he really is amazing to be still standing.

I now need to help him in writing a "Reasonable Accommodation" letter to his employer. Got to do some research on that and hope I don't do something to mess things up in a legal way. Poor man!

Except for me as I am the one who dole whips people and even have threatened to sit on someone and drip dole whip on their head.

Another place you can look for help is the polio people. My mom cleaned the apartment of a lady who lived in the same building as a couple with polio. They got better and struggled through life walking but were fine until their bodies wore out from the struggle. My half cousin Lucy Mae Carey had something wrong with her and one left was shorter. In time that wore her down also.

Check out the polio people and other groups that have members who once were young and strong and in time had to adapt to changes. There probably will not be a lot of clubfoot societies out there but there are other very active groups who research and compare things to see how to best adapt with aging. Take your help and knowledge from where ever you can get it. I go to other disabilities for answers. My mom is not autistic or ODD but I learned from them how to deal with her problems. There are others who have walked the same path as your or the person you are helping and you will be amazed how many are out there just like you or the person you are helping.
