What books did you read at school?

There’s a great Family Guy skit where Nathaniel Hawthorne is feverishly penning late at night. His wife annoyed by him not being in bed asks, “Honey what are you doing?”
Hawthorne responds “Ruining high school for everyone.”

The ones I remember from middle/HS, and not counting plays like Shakespeare:
The Great Gatsby
The Sun Also Rises
Light in August
Sister Carrie
East of Eden
All The King's Men
Nineteen Eighty-Four
Brave New World
Lord of the Flies
Silas Marner
Great Expectations
A Separate Peace
My Side of the Mountain
The Count of Monte Cristo
Les Miserables

On my own I read a lot of history and biographies. The Autobiography of Malcolm X made a big impression on me.

The Pearl is basically a primer book for freshman.... welcome to high school and what you are to Read is not for your entertainment

Sorry to hear about the Odyssey.. I loved teaching it.... movie 🎥 🎥 coming next year... never envision the actor though
I'm sure you would have made it more enjoyable.
I mean read and really enjoyed Circe by Madeline Miller not to long ago. Really could have been teacher.
