DH and I really enjoyed Rolling Stone's "The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time" and we especially liked reading "my top ten", lists made by musicians. We've been compiling our own top tens (as if anyone would ever care to ask them what they were!!:p ) but it's really fun. I'm sure I'm still forgetting songs, but this is "my top ten". Doo you have one?

(in no particular order)

1. Heroes - David Bowie
2. Sons of 1984 - Todd Rundgren
3. Perfect Day - Lou Reed
4. Witchita Lineman - Glenn Campbell
5. Son of a Preacher Man - Dusty Springfield
6. While My Guitar Gently Weeps - the Beatles
7. A Little Birdhouse in Your Soul - They Might Be Giants
8. All Along the Watchtower - Jimi Hendrix
9. Woodstock - the Crosby Stills Nash Young version of the Joni Mitchell
10. A Rush and a Push - the Smiths

OK Aunt Polly-

We obviously have the same taste in men and mostly music
BUT.....

Wichita Lineman? LOL! I actually know the whole son
by heart including the beeps but it's on your all time top
10? LOL!!! Very cute! Hey, we all have our little stops
off the main road of life. You and I should meet for coffee
in Mansfield sometime! ......is still on the liiiiine.
I'm gonna be singing it all day. gosh

OK, but did you record yourself singing it in one of those places you can make your own CDs? LOL it was fun, but it was so bad, I had to hide it from DH and DD and now I can't find it.

....and I need you more than want you....and I want you for all time.......and the Witchita Lineman..... is still on the line......

Mine should be a little different, considering I'm 15.

1. Enjoy the Silence - Depeche Mode
2. In the End - Linkin Park
3. Pain - Jimmy Eat World
4. We're all to Blame - Sum 41
5. My Immortal - Evanescence
6. Boulevard of Broken Dreams - Green Day
7. Wonderwall - Oasis
8. The Outsider - A Perfect Circle
9. Mr. Brightside - The Killers
10. Under the Bridge - Red Hot Chili Peppers

I'm a little ashamed because lately my mom and dad like the same music I do.:earseek:

Good list - if I had been thinking I might have put Depeche Mode on there (Personal Jesus made the top 500). Do kids still like them? They are more my era. Anyway, good choice. And of course, Under the Bridge is a great song.

Well here are ten of the songs I like most off the top of my head. I will revise it as I ultimately realize the ones I like better and those I've left out.

1. Joel Plasket Emergency - Light of the Moon
2. Barenaked Ladies - What a Good Boy
3. Joni Mitchell - Carrie
4. Moxy Fruvous - The Drinking Song
5. Rankin Family - We Rise Again
6. Vertical Horizon - Best I've Ever Had
7. Jann Arden - Good Mother
8. Gillian Welch - Look at Miss Ohio
9. Don McLean - Vincent
10. Ben Folds Five - Annie Waits

I like sad/sentimental songs, it seems.

I like the youngsters list too! I've loved Depeche Mode for
several years.

Here's my list after about 10 minutes of thought.

Satisfaction - stones
piece of my heart - joplin
summertime - gershwin
Rhapsody in Blue -gershwin
space oddity-bowie
Imagine -lennon
Born to Run-springsteen et. al.
bohemian rhapsody-queen
respect-aretha
Carmina Burana(the whole thing) -orff
Rejoice-Handel(from the Messiah)

That's 11, I know sigh

Wow great lists! I almost think that making one should be a requirement here on the DIS (....hmmmm if I were the queen of the DIS.....:scratchin ) Don't you feel like someone's choice of music really helps you to know them?

Oh for sure. One of the first questions I ask is a person's favourite song when I start to get to know someone. So much insight.

A top 10 is too hard for me to do! But my very favorite is "The Prayer" by Celine Dion and Andrea Bertocelli.

That song is so beautiful! I almost think I need different categories of favorite songs because I have a whole other list of songs like this. Did you ever see the CD "Duetto" with Marcelo Alverez and Salvatore Licitra? If you love "The Prayer" you'll love this.

Okay, mine will probably be...erm...different.

10. Happiness Is a Warm Gun-The Beatles
9. Oceania- Bjork
8. Teenage Dirtbag-Weezer
7. Cornflake Girl-Tori Amos
6. There Goes the Neighborhood-Sheryl Crow
5. Heart of Gold- Neil Diamond...( I think, or was it Tom Waits?)
4. Miracle Drug- U2
3. Angie-The Rolling Stones
2. World on Fire-Sarah McLachlan
1. Silent All These Years-Tori Amos

Yup, a clash, I know. But oh well.:teeth:

In no particular order.

1. Svefn g englar by Sigur Ros (band's from Iceland and it's the coldest song I've heard (feel like your deep in outer space)).

2. Pride by U2.

3. Fell in Love with a Girl by the White Stripes (song's only 2 or 3 years old and it's already being covered).

4. Working Man by Rush (Neil Peart hands down the best rock drummer of all time after listening to the live version of this song).

5. Baba O Reily by the Who.

6. Long Distance Runaround by Yes.

7. Heart of Glass by Blondie.

8. Bittersweet Symphony by The Verve.

9. We've been had by The Walkmen (It was on a Saturn Commercial during the super bowl a couple of years ago).

10. Wonderwall by Oasis (Could have been the next greatest band, but I'm still waiting).

Slightly off topic but Blasphemous Rumors is my favorite Depeche Mode song.

I know I'll think of one I missed as soon as I post this, but here's my list for now:

Wish You Were Here: Pink Floyd

Misty Mountain Hop: Led Zeppelin
Time For Me To Fly: REO Speedwagon
Dream On: Aerosmith
