What are your top 3 most respected occupations?

I won't vote for firefighter/medics 'cause I am one & don't wanna' bias the vote! :teeth:

So I'll say:

Cops (They put up with more crap than anyone could possibly realize, and still serve those that shovel the crap at them with dignity & professionalism)

Veterinarians (My DW is one & she is the BOMB!!! )

Teachers/ Healthcare workers & (Believe it or not) Attorneys tied for 3rd

I totally agree, Charlotte/LeCras. :)

In this thread, nurses, policemen, firefighters and teachers are listed the most.

Without the nursing assistants, the nurses would have a much harder job.
Without the dispathers, the policemen may not know who needs help.
Without the mechanics, the fire trucks could become useless.
Without the custodian, my job as a teacher would be much harder, if not impossible.

We are all connected to each other. All occupations are respected by me. We all have an effect on society, one way or another. :)

I see alot of you chose Firefighter : ) Can you remember that when it is time to vote for a raise ; ) As the wife of a Firefighter I can tell you those 24 hours hare rough for not only them but for thier family. They do it because they love it and for no other reason but it sure would be nice to be paid for it LOL

I think Teachers are my #1 they to are underpaid and overworked ( no I am not a teacher)

Firefighter/Police

Moms have the toughest job with or without pay I woudlnt trade it

My top 3 are:

1) Medicial Professionals
2) Teachers
3) Firefighters

Doctor, Judge, and CEO.
The doctor keeps me together
The judge keeps society together
And the CEO keeps companies together, maintaining jobs, which has a massive ripple effect across society.

I really like this part of your analysis. I maybe see judges in a bit different light, but I see what you mean.

To all the Moms out there.... :thumbsup2 I didn't list that in my original top 3 but now wish I could have. I am a proud husband of a SAHM (who is now back at work part time--- working around kids' schedules)

In order:

Teacher

Firefighter

And then ANYBODY doing ANY JOB, as long as they give an honest effort. I hold a special place in my heart for teachers.

hi
i agree anybody doing any job - every job is worthy of respect :goodvibes

fishermen - terrible conditions and rubbish pay
coastguard - imagine going out in those terrible storms
all other emergency workers - firemen/paramedics/doctors

Everybody has good answers and it was interesting to really think about what I thought.

I would say1) priests mininsters clergy etc

2) small business owners that work really hard and try to be successful

3) writers

It's funny, I just tried to think, now when I am I really impressed by someone's profession?

i don't respect people based solely on their occupation; i respect them based on their actions while doing their job.

1)Doctors and Nurses (I've met a lot of really caring people in both professions)

2)Journalists (They let us know what's going on in our world, sometimes at great risk to themselves)

3)People who work in humanitarian aid and environmental protection jobs (because they are trying to make the world a better place for everyone)

4)Police officers (I agree they have to take a lot of worst behavior people can dish out)

But I like what some other people have said about a lot of jobs being important, because they help support other people, and we all rely on each other.

One exception for me is CEO's. There is so much greed in this group, and they always seem to get big bucks no matter how poorly their company does. Meanwhile the people lower down on the totem pole get laid off or lose their pensions. I have very little respect for this profession, although I know there are some good CEO's out there, who add rather than just take.

On a general level, there are many occupations I respect. However, there are good and bad in every profession. I prefer to say I respect individuals rather than professions.
