...and - if you think it's a "must do", then please tell me why.

We're planning our next trip to Disney in 1 year and I *love* the planning process. This time we're thinking of doing the Disney Dining Plan, and there are just soooooo many to choose from! Which places have the best food or the most "bang for your buck"?

The sit-down restaurants are much easier. LOL

I don't think anything is a must-do but ten that I like are:

Wolfgang Puck Express
Columbia Harbor House
Captain Cooks (for the grilled cheese)
Starring Rolls Cafe
Boulangerie Patisserie
Earl of Sandwich
Mara
Everything Pop
Artist's Palette
Flame Tree (for onion rings, don't really care about anything else they have)

Beach Club Marketplace would have made that list, but they have reportedly stopped serving gelato. Pepper Market might have too, but I think it's declined so much there's no reason to go way over there to eat. However, there will be a lot of citations for Pepper Market in the bang for your buck DDP department. The worst drop-off for me is Tangierine Cafe, which would have definitely made the list before it started serving me cold meat.

Remember, you won't see the final DDP list for 2011 until the end of 2010.

AK

Don't hink I have 10 for a full meal. There are a bunch of places that we enjoy for a particular snack but since you are talking about meals, here's my list :goodvibes

WPE ************ MUST DO and best value
Capt Cook's
Pizza Planet (not necessarily best food but... :rolleyes1)
Cosmic Rays
Artist Palette
Starring Rolls

These are my favorites...The only one I would say is a "must" is Kringla Bakeri in Norway! :cloud9: Their sandwiches are just as good as the pastries!

In DHS:
Pizza Planet
Rosie's All American (I really love their burgers!)

In MK:
Columbia Harbour House
El Pirate y El Perico (however, in 8 trips, it has only been open once)
The Main Street Bakery

In AK:
Yak & Yeti in AK

In Epcot:
Sunshine Seasons in Furture World in The Lan Pavilion
Cantina de San Angel in the Mexico Pavilion(which is now under construction)
Kringla Bakeri in the Norway Pavilion

In DTD:
Earl of Sandwich

I don't think I can come up with ten, but here are the ones we return to over and over again and really enjoy:

Magic Kingdom -- Cosmic Rays and Columbia Harbor House
Epcot -- Sunshine Seasons and the Fish window at Rose & Crown
Studios -- None (we won't eat there)
Animal Kingdom -- Flame Tree Barbecue

We've not done any at Downtown Disney

For resorts, our picks would be: Mara at the AK, Pepper Market at the CSR, Riverside Mill at POR-Riverside and Captain Cooks at the Polynesian

(We will not return to Pecos Bills at the MK or the one at the CBR)

It may not be 10, but here is a list of my favorites:

Sunshine Seasons (Epcot)
Cosmic Rays (MK)
Boulangerie Patisserie (Epcot, France)
Yakitori House (Epcot, Japan)
Yorkshire Fish Shop (Epcot, UK)

1. Earl of Sandwich - DTD
2. Morocco CS (Tangierine Cafe I think) - EPCOT
3. FlameTree BBQ - AK

6. Sunshine Seasons - EPCOT
7. CS in Paris - EPCOT
8. Casey's - MK
9. Fish and Chips at UK - EPCOT
10. Mexican CS - EPCOT

#1, 2, and 3 are the only "Must-dos" on our list....EOS is amazing - everything I've had there is phenomenal, but I especially love the Original. The CS in Morocco has the best "bang for your buck" as the Shwarma Plate is massive and so good (so is the Baklava). Flametree....ohhhh man...if they still had the corn bread it would be at #1, but they eliminated it a few years back and now it's slipped to #3...but the ribs are delicious, and the key lime pie is decent too!

Grand Floridian - Gasparilla's

Wilderness Lodge - Roaring Forks Cafe

Disney Studios - ABC Commissary
Starring Rolls Cafe

-Pecos Bill
-Tangierine Cafe

-Cantina de San Angel, sitting by the water with a burrito and a Dos Equis
-Flame Tree BBQ
-Cosmic Ray's
-Wolfgang Puck Express
-The pirate/mexican place in Magic Kingdom (when it's open )

1) WGPE in DTD for breakfast, lunch or dinner. This is the best value if you are on the dining plan, not as great OOP as it is pricey, but still YUMMY!!

2) The Mara! They have the BEST soup and some entrees you can't find anywhere else.

3) Tangeriene Cafe in Epcot, YUM!

4) Main Street Bakery for breakfast.

5) Cosmic Rays

6) CHH

7) Starring Rolls Cafe, get a cupcake;)

8) Pizzafari (for the kids) and I get egg rolls from Y&Y

9) Pizza Planet (again for the kids)

10) Sunshine Seasons, except for the asian food.

These are not in too much of an order except for the top 3.

My favorites so far:

Columbia Harbor House (MK) - tastes & smells great, lots of indoor (AC) seating
Pecos Bill (MK) - lots of food for the $
El Pirata (MK) - lots of food for the $
Norway Bakery (EP) - amazing sandwiches as well as pastries
Sunshine Seasons (EP) - fresh, healthy, and good variety
Yak & Yeti (AK) - Chicken Fried Rice, yum! and good value
Flame Tree BBQ - salad is my fav
Earl of Sandwich (DTD) - one of everything, please! Delicious, good value, & has AAA discount

Basically I enjoy all the counter serve restaurants except the ones at DHS. Here I find the food is aweful. Don't know why, but twice burned is enough. I do like the Starring Rolls Cafe at DHS although it has limited offerings.

I do have my favorites;

MK, Columbia Harbour House,
AK, Here I like them all
Epcot, everything but the Fife and Drum Tavern.
DTD, Earl of Sandwich, I rarely eat sandwiches or wraps, just do not enjoy them. but they have awesome salads.

I'm not sure there are 10 counter service locations necessarily worth visiting, but since you asked, I will make a list.

  • Wolfgang Puck Express (Downtown Disney)
  • Columbia Harbour House (Magic Kingdom)
  • Sunshine Seasons (Epcot)
  • Contempo Cafe (Contemporary)
  • The Mara (Animal Kingdom Lodge)
  • Cosmic Ray's Starlight Cafe (Magic Kingdom)
  • Tangierine Cafe (Epcot)
  • Captain Cook's (Polynesian)
  • Earl of Sandwich (Downtown Disney)
  • Pizzafari (Animal Kingdom)

The first three on the list are the only places I consider "must-dos."
