What are your thoughts on ...

We rode it for the first time last year and have FP's for next month (for our second ride). For us it's not to be missed. It's an exciting ride. I take non-drowsy Dramamine because as I'm getting older things are starting to bother me. I got a little woosey but nothing bad. I was over it less than 5 minutes later. Oddly enough, my DH, who never rides coasters because of the feelings he gets, absolutely LOVED it and can't wait to do it again!

You have to try it at least once.

In all honesty, I think the ride is over-rated and the line is usually too long. The issue I have with the ride is that the 3D sometimes becomes blurry/out of focus and therefore takes you out of the immersion. (Also, my 3D glasses were too big for my head and kept sliding off, which was concerning. They may have fixed this though, I don't know.) The best scenes were the ones happening in the dark, like in the caves, etc., because the blurriness wasn't as noticeable.

That said, I think it is really great, fun, exhilarating and all that. The parts where the Banshee dives were really thrilling and gave you the sensation of a free fall that was really surprising and cool. I have only ever had a FP so I cannot speak for the SB line queue's supposedly excellent design. The pre-show stuff is pretty cute, if not a little corny. It's an excellent ride, but not perfectly amazing as some reviews (and the Stand-by line) would leave you to believe.

I would say you should try your best not to miss it, but don't become depressed if it doesn't fit into the schedule. Animal Kingdom was already an excellent park even without Pandora and you'll still have a great time, even if you miss FoP.

Another person who's not a fan of the Avatar movie. But I (and DS and DH) think FoP is the best ride in all of the parks. Still, there is no ride worth more than a 30min wait for me. Happy to have gotten FP twice in the same day for it last week!

If you have never done it, you have no idea if you'd like it or if you're missing out.

You don't have to like Avatar to enjoy a ride.

I've watched in on youtube.
I get that you can't get the full effect by just watching it but I also don't like the restraints.
I've been on a ride with restraints like that and it was awful.
I don't even like AK in general so I barely even go into that park.

That makes no sense. I've never seen Avatar and have no real desire to, but the experience of FoP is really cool. You could put any name on it and I'd still find the attraction fun. It's not about the movie, it's about the experience. But if it works for you to ignore an entire area because you've never seen the movie, great.

I avoid the entire park usually.
Why in the world would I go just for a section I don't even care about.

I've never seen Avatar. Tried to watch it and cannot sit through it. Flight of Passage is my favorite ride at WDW now. It is exhilarating. Pandora is amazing and beautiful and immersive.

I would never write anything off because I had not seen a movie. I was a naysayer about Pandora until I walked in for the first time.

I'll never try to convince someone to love Harry Potter the way I do. I do think people are missing out who haven't gone in those lands. They are incredibly done.

I've done Harry Potter.
Hate everything about it.
Why would I go wait in a very very long line for something I couldn't care less about?
I barely even go to AK because I don't care for the entire park.

I’ve watched videos of it too & know I could never ride it. I have an irrational fear if heights & am very sensitive to motion sickness from years of inner ear infections & issues. There is no way I could ever tolerate a ride like that.

And we aren’t big AK fans either, we skip,it for years on end. So it is not a “not to be missed” for us.

Personally I have not been on it and likely will never go on it and I don't think I'm missing out.
I have never watched Avatar and don't see the attraction to Pandora.
Same way that at Universal I couldn't care less about anything to do with Harry Potter.

I think that if you're into Avatar then its probably a must do.
So? Have you seen Song of the South?
Have you seen every single movie that every single ride is based on in every single park?
Does is really matter if you've seen the movie to enjoy the ride?

Yes I've seen Song of the South.
I'm sorry I dont do things that I dont care to do.
I feel that if you want to know what is going on in an attraction based on a movie you should a bit about it to really enjoy it.
It's not like say Haunted Mansion or another original attraction where they give you a bit of background. When its based on a movie you're expected to know the background already.
I figure hey it's more fastpasses for those that want to ride it.

Well then why are people flaming me about it lol
On the other hand why are you flaming or digging on a ride you haven't done? How would you know if it's a ride someone should try if you've never been?
It is fine to not want to go. It's rather odd to not want to go for the sole reason that you haven't seen the movie as there are a lot of movies that folks haven't seen and they still like the rides.
There are lots of other reasons to not want to go, not liking the park for instance, as you say.
But to respond to someone who asks, is it a must do, when you've never done it? Rather hard to answer, no?

To be fair had the thread title mentioned what it was about I would not have even clicked on it.
I was only giving my opinion just like everyone else. I did not quite anyone and call them out for their opinion.

No one cares if you don't want to ride it. Doesn't affect anyone lol

But it makes literally no sense to tell someone the ride isn't worth doing if you haven't even done it. You can't say you aren't missing out if you haven't ridden it.

I have no interest in turtle talk with crush and will likely never experience it, but wouldn't tell another family to skip it because I have no idea what it's like.

I'm not into the Avatar movie at all. I watched it years ago and thought it was kind of weird. So when we went to AK last month, we had fast passes so I thought why not. My husband (who REALLY likes Avatar) let me go on the ride first because we had to do a rider switch. We had just ridden the Navi River ride a couple of days earlier and I was meh about that one so I assumed I would be meh about FOP, too. It was simply AMAZING! It doesn't matter if you like Avatar or not. I got off of the ride and described it to my husband as Soarin' on steroids. The simulation was really cool, the fact that your whole body moves with the ride, the scents, the colors, that it actually feels like you are there. It is definitely a must do. So much that we rope dropped the next morning so that we could ride it again.

Adding that I would not wait 2 hours for this ride, but I won't wait more than 30 minutes for ANY ride at Disney. Get a FP or rope drop. Also adding that I did feel a little dizzy when I got off of the ride, but it was very minor and I was fine once I started walking. Nothing like riding on the teacups or anything like that.

I never said the OP wouldn't be missing out. I said I dont feel like I'm missing out.
I find it funny how different threads are treated so differently. There was a thread a while ago about skippable rides at MK and people were telling the OP what rides weren't worth doing and it was ok then.

I’ve seen Avatar and, while visually stunning, found the story pedestrian. FOP is enjoyable, but in my opinion not a must-do. If you can get a FP for it or manage a sub-60-minute standby wait, then do it.
