What are your thoughts on ...

This is me too! I don’t like Avatar, think I wat he’d maybe 5 min of it so it doesn’t interest me. My 17 yo also said the same thing “why would I want to wait in a line for a ride about a movie I don’t like.”

To be fair, it's not really a ride about a movie. The theming is of the movie. But it's more about the experience of feeling like you're flying. That's like saying you won't try Soarin' because you don't like the ocean, or you won't walk through Cinderella's castle because you didn't like the movie.

You're right- you don't have to like everything there. There are some things that I don't like. But at least I've tried them before I form that opinion.

My parents and brother had never seen avatar, but loved the ride. Best ride all last week they said. Now, my wife did get pretty nauseous after riding it, but I loved it. I have never experienced anything like it. The whole pandora area was cool, but after a while pretty boring. Not much to do there.

I really have no interest in the theming of the movie so it's not one of those rides I have to go on so that is my opinion. I am OK not feeling like I am flying. It just doesn't do it for me and I'd rather not waste my time there in line when I can be somewhere else and not be queasy green. Just like Harry Potter, hate the movies so I have no interest in going to Universal to see HP. I would love to do Mission Space but there is that queasy green feeling I would get. That interests me but I know I can't do it.

I like Soarin' because I like what the movie shows.

One of my friends has been telling me for the past year that I need to go on it and she finally said "oh yeah, you have no desire", yep, so besides having the panic feeling of wanting to puke (the last time I had that was when I was landing in Ft. Myers this past April, rough landing...), she knows I don't like the "story line."

There are so many things I have no done in Disney because it does not interest me so I don't want to waste the time standing in line or sitting and watching-ie shows.

Just think, with my family of 5 skipping it, the lines are that much shorter and that many more opportunities for FP for others to get.

Have a lovely day

I never said the OP wouldn't be missing out. I said I dont feel like I'm missing out.
I find it funny how different threads are treated so differently. There was a thread a while ago about skippable rides at MK and people were telling the OP what rides weren't worth doing and it was ok then.
Did they....ride them?

If you tolerate motion simulators, it is a not to be missed ride. One of, if not the best ride at WDW so far. The que is extremely well done and worth walking through even if you weren't going to do the ride. Amazing attention to detail throughout the ride.
I don't think you have to be a fan of the movie to appreciate the ride. The pre-show does a very good job setting up the attraction.

That's pretty subjective. I'm not a fan and will ride it when my son is along but don't ride it when I'm solo. It doesn't make me throw up or dizzy but sometimes, I feel a little off when I get off it. Take that with a grain of salt though because I'm also not a huge fan of the new Soarin (loved the old one) and you couldn't pay me to ride RNRC.

Yes I've seen Song of the South.
I'm sorry I dont do things that I dont care to do.
I feel that if you want to know what is going on in an attraction based on a movie you should a bit about it to really enjoy it.
It's not like say Haunted Mansion or another original attraction where they give you a bit of background. When its based on a movie you're expected to know the background already.
I figure hey it's more fastpasses for those that want to ride it.
There's a pretty extensive pre-show before FOP with lots of background info (2 of them, almost too long). Definitely no background info needed for this one.

But then again I can't even fathom anyone not liking AK in general, so everything's not for everyone.

The title of this thread is “what are your thoughts on”

With this first post:

Flight of Passage - Avatar. Is it a not to be missed?

Personally I have not been on it and likely will never go on it and I don't think I'm missing out.
I have never watched Avatar and don't see the attraction to Pandora.
Same way that at Universal I couldn't care less about anything to do with Harry Potter.

I think that if you're into Avatar then its probably a must do.

Queen of the WDW Scene gave her opinion, just as the OP asked for. She even included the line that if you like Avatar, it is probably a must do. I don’t think she deserves some of the comments & posts directed her way. She gave her opinion, just as we are all entitled to. And we all get to decide which rides we want to do without having to explain ourselves.

I will do what I can to get us FPs for it, even switching around park days if need be, but if we don't get one, I am okay skipping it rather than waiting 2 hrs in standby. We have motion sickness issues with Star Wars, but were both fine on FoP.

The pre-show is loooooong. It was cute the first time, but I suspect it will get old quickly on subsequent rides.

If you can get a FP or can do standby at the end of the night (still potentially a very long wait but at least you're not wasting precious park time standing in line), it's definitely worth experiencing if it is something you're interested in.

I have never watched Avatar. I have no desire to watch Avatar. I can't ride most motion simulator rides (Body Wars ruined that for me). I do like Soarin', though, and have no trouble (other than my fear of heights) with that ride. I was worried about the restraints on FOP because I don't like being "locked in" to something. But I was determined to ride FOP. I'm soooo glad I did. I thought it was amazing. You don't need to have any knowledge of the movie to enjoy the ride. (I also have never seen any Star Wars movie but absolutely love the Star Wars night time show at DHS). Maybe it will have more meaning if you've seen the movie, but I didn't feel like I was missing *anything* by not having seen the movie before going on the ride. There is a lot of pre-show backstory but I can't remember one second of it because I wasn't really paying attention. The motion didn't bother me at all and neither did the restraints. I was a little off balance when I got off the ride, but once I took a few steps, I was fine. The only thing that bothered me (and I never see anyone mention this) was the "electronic tingling" you feel in your stomach just before the ride starts. I could have done without that. I didn't mind it on my back -- sort of felt like a TENS unit. Fortunately my son had warned me about so I wasn't completely surprised. I just sucked in my belly to break the contact. I will definitely ride this every time we're at AK. I don't think I would wait more than about 30-45 minutes in the s/b line for it unless it was at the end of the night.

Now Navi River Journey is a different story for me. That was a once and done unless there is a less than 15 minute standby wait *and* someone else in the family wants to ride it. I will not waste another FP on it.
