What are your rules when searching for work?

Remote work only or at least being able to work from home most days. I work from home now and I love the flexibility it gives me. I also love not having to commute and being able to save money on gas.

Flexibility is a high priority for me. I'm not really looking for a job right now, but if I was, that would be key.

I have been looking for a new job for a year and a half since our company closed due to the pandemic. Other than a job matching my skills, the only other criteria is that it has to be less than 15 miles one way from my house and enough pay to cover my necessary expenses. I am even willing to take a substantial pay cut if I needed to, although I wouldn’t mention that until the appropriate point in the interview process. I spend six hours a day reviewing various websites and applying, but haven’t had a single interview yet. I am at the point where I can’t afford to be choosy.

What WERE my rules when searching for work?
In the same city I live in.
Been retired a year, so no rules anymore.

The remote work comments are interesting. I worked remotely for 15 months and liked it. A few existing employees at my old job still work remotely but only because the company can't find people to replace them so they are allowing it. However, all new hires are required to work in the office now.

I need to make as much or more money, with as good or better conditions (vacation time, benefits, flexibility) and as much security as I have now. Oh wait...that'll never happen, which is why I've been with the same employer for 16 years and plan to retire from here (Lord willing).

Yep i agree. I have been with my current employer (small business) and have never considered looking anywhere else.

BENEFITS!

Also given the impact the pandemic has had on 401k I would really be interested in that.

Also sick and leave policies.

Reasonable drive to from/work. Max; 45 minutes 1 way
Salary; not willing to take too much of a pay cut. The job/environment/work life balance can make up for a small cut
