What are your New Year's Eve plans?

Ummmmm, it only works with the saurkraut. I hated the stuff when I was little but my dad always made us eat a couple strands.

And I did pick up on the red underwear....I was just afraid to ask.....

It's a tradition in Italy. Red underwear is worn on New Year's Eve. It's better if it's new and even better still if it was a gift, but the main thing is that it HAS to be red.

It is supposed to bring the wearer luck in the New Year, not just in love, but in all facets.

We always make them the in the Italian New Year's traditional way - in kind of a thick soup with vegetables, served with sausage.

Well the lentils in my dish are served with pork sausage, so I get the best of the luck of both worlds. ;)

I'm surprised that no one picked up on my "red underwear" tradition from an earlier post.

I love lentil soup, but have never made it from scratch (read "Progresso" lol). I adore the one from Carrabas though and hope to find a similar recipe some day!

I must have missed the red underwear comment. I've never heard of that before and I'm 50% Italian! :rotfl2:

NYE is a good nite to keep off the roads . . . amateur night. I plan to have a wild night of staying home backing up the data (photos and videos mostly) off my iMAC and Macbook Pro and reformatting the two hard-drives so I start 2011 with a proverbial "clean-slate" . . . I will be lucky if I see midnight.

DR NYKCB

Have you chatted with k5jmh here on the DIS yet? He's a techie, too. :)

Maybe Pete or Alex will open chat up!!!

or Kevin will let us use ABD chat for NYE chat!!

That would be a great idea since my DBF is working and I'm not sure what the kids are doing...

:cheer2: This would be fun! I wonder if we can get permission.

OoOOOooo...:surfweb:

I think this is a SPLENDID idea.

Say 8ish?

Wear your most comfy PJs and we'll have a virtual New Years Eve Party!!!!

Now....I'm going to post this as a separate thread so that more folks get a chance to see it.

Great. So, any ideas where I can run out and get some red underwear on New Year's Eve day?

We're heading down to the Hockey Game which starts at 7 with our girls who are just as big of Flames fans as I am. After we'll come home and chill watch tv and likely be in bed shortly after midnight. Not to thrilling.

Very happy to be lounging around at home sipping hot chocolate with peppermint Kahlua, watching the ball drop, and being glad I made it through 2010; looking forward to 2011.

Sayhello

Peppermint Kahlua sounds good. Have not heard of this ...plotting trip to liquor store now.

Plan a lovely day / evening of football, ice hockey and New Year's Day parades. (something about golden slippers and string bands always sounds like it's New Years)

Yes, it's one of those traditions that isn't as respected by Italian-Americans anymore, but is still carried on regularly in Italy.

We Have a service at our Church tonight.

It starts at 7 & consists of lots of singing & short talks. We break about 9:30 for tacos & chips & dips & lots of desserts. After visiting & eating we continue till midnight & sing the old year out & the new one in.

It is always lots of fun & we have a huge crowd with folks coming from out of town & even out of state.

Happy New Years everybody.

My sister is hosting a NYE party for our Sunday School class tonight, so I just finished baking 2 pies to take to that.

Of course, my in-laws are upset because we usually host a NYE party at our house and invite the whole family. We always cook a big pot of chili (we ARE Texans, after all) and cornbread and tamales. And then we stay up late and play board games. But this year my sister wanted to have a party...I'm glad to have the night off, but they are upset. I invited them to my sister's party and they declined. <sigh>

Hi Everyone! Hope you are having a great New Year's Eve so far. Sorry I will not be joining in chat tonight. As much as I would love to it would not be fair to my guest. My husband and I are having my dad over and we are gonna eat till we drop! I am making pigs in a blanket, then we have shrimp cocktail, buffalo chicken kickers, spinach puff pastries, some hormel meat n cheese party tray, mozzarella sticks, lil cheese steaks, quesadilla thingies, mini donuts, sparkling apple juice (don't know what the diff is between this and sprkling apple cider)... and prolly a bunch of other stuff! This is a lot for 3 people! Hehe! Not sure what we will be watching yet. Anyone know if anything good is gonna be on TV? Movies, shows, etc?

Happy New Year!

We're taking our kids out to Applebees and then home for games and snacks. It's a balmy 50 degrees here in Rochester, NY!

Hey we're in Buffalo, and yeah, isn't this weather great! No snow and 50 degrees. A lot of people will be heading downtown for the USA World Junior game and fireworks tonight, and they won't mind being outside at all.:thumbsup2

I got a new cookbook for xmas so I am making chicken parm and pasta, with come chianti classico to wash it down.

We just got finished watching the Irish cream Miami so that's cool.

I never make it to midnight and I am sure that this year will be no different!

Jennifer
