What are your local and state taxes?

What are your local and state taxes on clothing and food? I know not all states have a tax on certain things, because when we lived in NY, we used to shop for clothes in NJ because there was no tax. Living in Italy, the taxes are higher than anywhere I have ever lived, all clothes, food, actually almost anything you buy you will pay a 20% tax. That is a lot of money, especially on big ticket items, like my kitchen, I paid $350 just in taxes.

My county taxes are 6%, I think, for anything other than food. The food is a little trickier. I'm not sure what it is, but the food actually is put into 2 different categories then taxed according to that category, and it's less than 6%.

Were not called Tax-achusetts for nothing. Everything in Mass is taxed, except food.

State tax (taken out of pay) is a flat rate 2.9%.
Sales tax is 6% on purchases except food/clothing/essentials.. essentials is a tricky area, because I can never remember what is considered essentials or not.

Shoes aren't taxed, but disposable diapers are!

There is a Philadelphia wage tax, if you work in the city of Philadelphia there is a wage tax, I think its 3. something percent...

In Ohio, there was a Residence tax called RITA. Anyone over 18 got charged it, (few exceptions), and it was a percentage of your income.

Food...except for pop, candy and fast food/restaurant food is not taxed. Everything else is taxed at 6%.

State sales tax is 5% on everything except grocery store type food. In my county hotel and restaraunts have to tack on an extra 1% to pay for the RCA Dome, where the Indy COlts play. They've been here since 1984, secured a big payment from RCA for naming rights, but for some reason the 1% tax has not been revoked.

Food, except for soda, candy and fast food/restaurant food is not taxed. Everything else is 8.25 %. 6% goes to the state, the rest is local. There is no income tax in Texas.

Everything except food, childrens clothes and books have 17.5% tax (VAT) included in the UK. But unlike the US the prices quoted in stores etc. already include the tax.

We pay 5% sales tax on just about everything. Food is tax free.
I have no idea what the county/state income tax rate is, but it's a considerable chunk of change.

Tiggerlover, at least in the U.S. we've avoided such high sales taxes. They're highly regressive and really punish the poor much more than the wealthy ...........

Our sales tax in Duval is 7%. Thankfully the only taxes that are taken out of our paychecks are federal, social security and I think it is called medicare tax. Certain foods in the store aren't taxed.
