What are your living arrangments?

We recently moved into the house DH's late grandmother lived in - her parents built it so it's always been in the family.

We currently rent from DH's parents who hold the mortgage and plan to purchase the house from them when we are able to obtain a mortgage in the next couple of years.

DBF and I rent an apartment. We will probably stay here for another couple of years to save up and buy a house a year after we get married.

I'm a full-time student and don't make enough money at my current job to pay for my own education AND live on my own, so alas, I live with my parents.

Its alright, though. They're cool. :thumbsup2

When we got married (almost 22 years ago!) we lived in an apartment. After a year, we bought a 1 bedroom condo where we lived for 3 years. Then we bought a 3 bedroom townhouse and lived there for 5 years. Finally, we bought the 5 bedroom house where we've lived for over 12 years. We truly did move up each time we bought a new place and built a good amount of equity to put toward our current house.

We rent and plan to keep on renting.

There is no way we could buy a house the size of our apartment and still keep the monthly mortgage at $2k a month here. I'm not giving up my closets.

I have rented for the past 3 years and it is DD8 and I. We are moving at the end of June to a much much much cheaper apartment still in our area and school district. Because of this move I will actually be able to save up a substantial amount of money. Unfortunately, I cannot afford to buy a home in our area because I've been unable to save up the for the DP...even 3.5%. So that is why I'm moving.

Also unfortunate for financial reasons, DBF rents his own place in Bmore with his brother and a roommate. It would be very very nice to rent w/him and save up a truckload of money, but we have agreed not to live together until marriage.

We own our home, which we bought almost 2 years ago.

Before that, DH and I rented an apartment for the first 5-ish years of our marriage. There aren't really any starter homes in our area, so we had to wait a while until we could afford the mortgage and upkeep costs of home ownership.

It's nice to own your own place, but sometimes the upkeep and repair costs can be a huge hassle!

We own our house. We rented an apartment for almost a year when we got married and then bought our house.

We own our home. We bought it 4 years ago and rented for several years before that.:)

DH lived with his parents until he finished school in 1993. I lived with my parents (paid rent) until I got married in 1994 (DH was 24 and I was 21). Before we got married in Sept, DH rented an apartment in May which I moved into after we got married. We lived there for a year and bought our house in June 1995. We have been in this house for 15 years this June and will probably stay here until we grow old and can't climb the stairs to the second floor.

We own our house. We built it 10 years ago. Before that dh and I each owned our own homes. Before that we were renting and paying off student loans:goodvibes

BOTH!

We own a home in Boston that we rent out. In 2008 while living in our Boston home, DH was offered a job in Southern CA that we just could not refuse. Rented our Boston home as the r.e.market has been so bad but renting has been great.

In SoCal, we are renting a brand new (2000sqft) townhouse, the complex is all new not even completed yet. Love it, the weather, and all the attractions. :goodvibes

We will buy a home (condo/townhouse) in SoCal when we sell our Boston home.

We have never rented. We own our home and have always lived in our home together. We live in one of the best school districts in our area. We live in a one story single family home. We are hoping to move to a larger home once we are finnished with school, in the same town and school district.

We rent. Real estate is far too expensive to purchase. We don't plan to live here forever anyway.

Same with us, houses are astronomical. Renting is managaeble. I definitely don't want to live in PA forever, 5 years tops.

Thanks for all the replies...

We rent and have for almost 5 years...

The thing is now I that I am done with school I have ants in my pants and want to buy a house, but the down payment is going to KILL me... I guess not that I have a better paying job I can start putting money away but then I won't be able to buy for at least a couple of years, and I want to buy NOW...

So who can help me with how to save money?!?!?!?

DH and i own our house. we never rented before we bought, we just outright bought.

The bank technically owns our house - we might own the doorknob by now! LOL...anyway we bought our house in 2005 (I was age 32 then) so I probably rented 12 years in various apartments etc (when I was single, and for the first fews after we married we lived in a tiny studio apt!)

We rented an apartment for four years when we were first married. We now own a single family house.
