What are your kids doing this summer?

Just wondering how much "stuff" you have your kids in during the summer months. I will be off too because I teach, but still think they need a bit to do. My girls are only 6 and almost 4 so they are still young for some camp type stuff. Money is tight for us this year, so we haven't planned a trip so it is all kind of open. Right now just dance camp for one week in July ... full days for older dd and half for youngest. Soccer on Wednesday nights until first week of August. Library program on Thursdays (am for little one/pm for older one). Enough? Not enough? Should we do some camps? What do you all have planned? Do you holiday in the summer too?

p.s. I will add that my girls like to fight ... drives me nuts ... they are so much alike, they just constantly clash!!

I have 2 boys - 13yo and 7yo and boy do they like to fight also!! Drives me nuts too!

I work from home so my oldest will be assisting me in my daycare to earn some extra money for our trip at the end of the summer and I will find some extra jobs for the younger one to do so he has some extra $$ too.

I also have the summer advantage books from the school for them to work on and they are doing joint research projects on the different ports we are visiting on our cruise as well as one on coral reefs, sharks and dolphins. Both boys still have Baseball 2X a week (X2 kids) plus swimming one night and older ds' has karate one night. Music will be stopped for the summer but both boys will still work on some fun songs of their choice.

Other then that we are hanging out and taking a break from 'life'. Lots of sprinkler time, park trips, reading together, baking (since both love to cook and bake), letting them sleep in. Just a nice relaxing break from school then 2 weeks away at the end (1 week cruise, 1 week at WLV)

I do love having them home with me! (remind me of that in a few weeks when they are fighting :lmao: )

One thing we do every summer is join the public library reading club. It is sponsored by TDBank and is province wide. The library provides you with a chart to keep track of the books you read or the books you read to them if they are younger. Our library does a party at the end in around early august. I love this as it adds some loose structure to our summer, we tend to go to the library and them the park on a tues or whayever fits the schedule that summer but it gives us a destination, is great for their minds and is FREE!

I also teach so I am home with my DD10. The first two weeks are always swimming lessons for 1/2 hour each weekday. I have a friend who gives semi private lessons in her backyard pool. The next two weeks DD goes to a drama camp all day. She has been going to the same camp for 3 years and she loves it. I get a great break for two weeks too!!!! After that we are going to England to visit my sister for two weeks. We have usually gone to DWD the last part of August but not this year.
The reading program at the local library is great like some other posters said. We put in an above ground pool a few years ago and it is wonderful! It really keeps my DD and the neighbourhood kids occupied. It is easy to maintain and well worth the $.
Our city has a splash pad and I know my DD would have enjoyed it when she was younger. We also have beautiful parks here and I used to make a picnic lunch and we'd go when she was smaller. We are also close to the beach so that was another option for us.
I hope you have a great summer!:tinker:

Another :teacher: here. My DS(6) will be attending a week long day camp near his grandparents home in July and also going to the sitter who plans lots of fun activities. I will be taking courses for my MEd. in July. Then in August we get our reward- WDW!!!! (DH will also be off in August)

Happy summer all!

IF your in the Toronto area you should check out Parks and Recreation as they have a Welcome Policy where its based on income and your kids could get up to 4 weeks FREE for camp if you want more info let me know, camps start as young as 3yrs old as long as they are potty trained and some are from 9am to 4pm

Anyways my kids 8, 5 and daughter just turned 4 in April will ALL be going to summer camp for 4 weeks 2 in July and 2 in Aug, other then that we will be heading to the summing pools, Beaches and CNE when it opens end of Aug.
And then heading to Disney for our 1 ever REAL LoL  family vacation I cannot wait :cheer2:

I have a teenager coming in next week for DD(age9). Then three weeks of 3 different camps - track, general, and swim. Then off she goes to grandma's for 2 weeks. Then I am taking the last three weeks - then Happy Labour Day!;)

Wow love all your plans you have. Its so different to the UK. We dont have camps or anything like that. Our children are on holiday for 6 weeks in the summer. We try to get away or we take them out to places when we can. I work shifts at my local hospital. We try to take two weeks off and use those two weeks spoiling the kids. This year in Aug dh is taking the children camping. In this country it really is socialising with friends, indoor fun areas etc.

I love the camp ideas it gives them something to look forward to other than sit at home watch TV. Great idea. Wish we offer something similar here.

I promised my kid's no camps and no lessons all summer. They were totally overbooked during the school year and are so looking forward to no structure and pajama days.

That being said-After the first let's say 2 days I know they will be looking for something to do.

I do have some holidays booked this summer (2 weeks in B.C. and a week at Disney and some camping). Once I throw in visits to the grandparents, days at the cobourg beach, and some other day trips I'm sure the summer will just fade away:sad:

I work in a school so I have all summer off with my kids, dd13 & ds7.

dd13 will be babysitting [in our home] for 2 weeks this summer. She did the same last summer to earn extra $$$$. She babysits two kids that are in my school program. It works well. Kepts my kids entertained for a couple of weeks.

These are our plans;

Scheduled Plans
July 12 ~ Sick Kids Appt
July 22 ~ Trip to CN Tower
July 28 ~ Trip to Reptilia
Aug 27 ~ Work meeting before school starts
Aug 28 & 29 ~ 2 hours of prep work in school each day
Aug 30 ~ Sick Kids Appt
Labour Day Long Weekend ~ Sisters wedding ~ we are all in the wedding party

Unscheduled but plan on
Wonderland ~ we have season's passes
Ontario Place ~ we have free tickets
Swimming at Grandma's ~ she has an awesome pool and backyard!
Trailer camping ~ we have two trailers, one permanent, one tent trailer

The biggest plan is a trip to Cedar Point in Ohio!

Lots of fun! I plan on RESTING too! Blessings, Sandra

DH and I are both working all summer (:sad1: ) so DS is going to the Science Centre camp for 2 weeks and then U of T camp for the remainder of the summer. We have a week thrown in there in August we are going out to the east coast as my sister is getting married in Shediac NB - so that should be fun!

Our next WDW trip is Nov so I really don't think of summer as a vacation ;) :lmao:

We are doing a few day trips. This weekend we went to Moraine lake, Lake Louise and Banff. We will do some camping at Cow lake. We are doing a day trip to Drumheller to see the hoodoos and museum. Going to Radium Hot Springs for a soak and a case of B.C cherries. Of course doing the Calgary Stampede and going to Sylvan Lake for the waterslides. Dh bought the kids one of those inflatable waterslides on the weekend that you climb up so we will have lots of water/trampoline,campfire fun in the yard. Doing some fishing down by Waterton Parks. Really a bunch of little things this summer.
