What are your first thoughts about Disneyland Shanghai?

The Tron coaster has been moved to the top of my bucket list. If that coaster is never brought to the states, I would absolutely consider Shanghai.

I've only watched three ride videos so far:

Peter pan:

I really like the start, coming into the house from the window. I loved Nana flying. I highly dislike London, I prefer wdw's London where you start off low in the city then get higher.

I hated the video screens, I felt they really clashed with the animatronics.

I felt like the around the corner pirate ship scene was weird. In WDW, when you turn the corner around the sail you see our group victoriously steering the ship. Inshanghai, that space is empty and weird.

I do, however, love the ending when you land by the Peter pan statue in Kensington gardens.

Pirates:

.... They need a better jack sparrow voice. The voice actor they got just came across as the most generic voice actor ever. His voice had no inflection or...pirateness hah.

Also, a lot of Disney fans criticize universal for building screen based rides..well be afraid disney fans because the screens are upon us.

Sure, they can do a lot more action with screens. But I'm immediately taken out of the ride with the screens. I don't feel like I'm there anymore, I feel like I'm in a movie theater.

How impressive would it have been to have actual ships in the big naval battle at the end? Now that would have wowed me. They could have even used forced perspective and only needed a few life size ships your little boat had to navigate around with smaller ships battling in the distance.

Suffice it to say, I was not impressed by pirates.

Tron cycles:

I love the position of the seats in the ride vehicles, it probably feels like your really riding a motorcycle.

I think the ride may have been better as in indoor ride and they should have had more neon lights.

Well, I watched really carefully some of the videos that are appeared on youtube.

I think disney made something really unique with this park. The treasure cove and adventure isle section of the parks looks really stunning (I'm waiting to see a POV of Roaring rapids, I'm really curious about that ride).

Talking about rides:
Pirates of the carribean to me looks incredible. after seeing that skeleton transform into Jack....Done!
Tron is a really nice alternative to Space mountain, innovative and visually stunning. The only complaint maybe is for the lenght of the ride...
Peter pan is an awesome new eye on a classic ride.
Voyage to the crystal grotto looks really cute and the finale is really nice.
The alice maze looks amazing!

I watched a few clips on YouTube. My impressions so far are:

Tron - I'm a coaster fan. This isn't a high thrills coaster. Theming is good. Better than Rock N Roller Coasters' theming.

Jetpacks - Lame.

Peter Pan - Some nice updates. My niece and I thought Peter Pan's face was odd looking.

Pirates - After the first watch I really liked it. The skeleton to Jack Sparrow effect was awesome. I watched it two more times.
A bit too Universal (too many screens). I like the WDW/DL versions better. More detailed. More creativity. Memorable songs.

Soaring - I would need to ride this before fully commenting. I like what was filmed in the original movie better. The original
had a theme. The new one is just a random collection of places from around the world. It appears that the elephants
are CGI. It's evident that the last elephant shown was animated.

Crystal Grotto - Very lame. Ride once and check it off the list. If they had used audio-animatronics it would have made the ride
slightly better.

Alice In Wonderland Maze - Experience it once and check if off the list.

Carousel - Meh. WDW's carousel is better.

Winnie The Pooh Hunny Pots - Hunny Pots instead of Teacups. Fun for the kids.

Buzz - I would need to ride this before fully commenting. It appears to be far more CGI based than actual 3-D elements.
If this is the case I like the WDW version better.

Princess walkthrough in the Castle - This was o.k. I didn't care for the CGI Princesses and villains. I like the Sleeping
Beauty Castle walkthrough at Disneyland better.

Mickey Avenue - I only saw a brief glimpse of it and from what I saw it didn't wow me.

Frozen show - Wow, that was terrible. No budget put into that one.

The park is huge, but there appears to be huge areas of nothing (Tomorrowland - video of Darth Vadar looking over the area
near Tron).

My second thoughts after watching all the shanghai coverage is simple. At this time Disney has very little interest in the domestic parks probably due to everyone still going no matter what shape there in. They're a business who's primary push right now is their very successful movie industry and their newest foreign investment. I wish things would change, but the reality is they will drag their construction out at WDW and DL to help there bottom line and endure the costs of there new investment. It sucks because I know it wont change. I'm sure when the lands are done, which due to shanghai were looking at 2020+, they will be amazing. I hate to be a debbie downer, but when I see so much investment and all we have seen is construction walls and next month a Frozen ride. Bob Iger has been absolutely wonderful for The Walt Disney company, but he has been absolutely horrible for WDW and DL theme parks. Had he invested in a Tron attraction, Getting Avatar land, Star wars land, and Toy Story land done faster instead of putting over billion dollars into data mining with Fast pass plus that would have been an amazing thing to see as a Disney Fan. I realize a lot of people will not agree with my opinion, but it is what it is.:(

The longer the construction takes the more money it will take to finish it.

I agree with these comments.
