What are your feeling on the temperature check being removed ?

I'm fine with it. Honestly, I just don't think that there is a large percentage of people who opt to drag themselves into a theme park while running a decent fever, no matter if they've paid for a ticket already or not.

And beyond that, there are people wandering about with no fever who are indeed sick, so it's not entirely helpful no matter what. And while I absolutely am pro-vaccine, I will say that one side effect of the vaccine is that we may have more non-symptomatic folks with COVID these days since if you get it once vaccinated it can be much milder.

Add in that people can get flagged as having a fever who are indeed fine, and it sounds like a hassle without much reward to me.

I'd much rather parks work on maintaining social distancing and mask-wearing than spending so much time and effort on the temp-taking. :)

Temperature checks are widely considered hygiene theater when administered through skin. While oral and rectal body temperatures are pretty accurate, the forehead scanners are inaccurate. Social distancing and masks prevent spread from all people with or without symptoms, but fever checks probably won't catch the majority of people who are sick. Keeping them probably isn't hurting anyone, but seeing them go will probably not affect COVID spread in theme parks, either.

Also people who are really sick may use drugs and icecubes to fake out the temperature scanners.

You saw this alot at the beginning of the pandemic when construction workers would do that to circumvent the temperature checks on construction sites out in Los Angeles.

I am so elated they got rid of it. I have a 7 year old that spikes random fevers related to other health conditions. For instance, he spiked a fever due to a kidney stone on the move a few weeks ago and might have not passed the temp check if we had been at the park. There are so many non-related reasons that people might have an elevated temp that temp checks are futile. Besides if people can pass it asymptomatically what is the point?

It really is simple, if you are scared about 6 feet or masks then wear one or don't go. We need to get back to normal. Stop telling people to wear a mask because you are scared.
I find it quite enjoyable acting like every other human being that comes within shouting distance of me has the cooties. Are you trying to tell us you don't like walking around with a mask on acting like a mindless robot? Remember, we have to follow the science! Now someone needs to tell me what exactly the science is for today and who exactly to listen to?

This point is talked about in my house frequently.
My ds24 believes everything that comes out of Dr Fauci mouth and my DH does not trust most of what he says... I'm not sure who Is right and wrong so I am going to do what we always do.... and tried to do even before 2020 Wash your hands before you eat. Keep from touching your face and stop the kids from touching everything that's next to them.

Some of those handheld temp machines are worthless. I ran the one for one of DD's plays recently. We were testing it ahead of time. Wild temperatures swings.

Wasn't it two months ago that CDC said that 3' is just as good? I just got back from Universal. One thing I noticed is that they can't really enforce the 6' rule. With a mask, it is easy to enforce because it is a one-person thing. But, if some people back up in a line, that just causes crowding behind. People seemed to be leaving about 2' between groups.

In my small town, they are cancelling vaccine appointments because they can't get 10 people to sign up on the same day. When that is the norm I think all this stuff should be eliminated.

The paper wristbands that Universal had people wear after having temp check to show that you didn't have a fever.

Did they always do that? I went to Universal a handful of times in 2020 -- between June and November.
Never was given a wristband after the temp check, and I never noticed one on others (though I wasn't looking, because I didn't know they existed!).

Also, I always entered from a "side" entrance -- the entrance by the valet parking, because I was walking from an off property hotel.

We were there in October, 2020. Stayed at Royal Pacific. Got a wristband each morning at the hotel.

Agree with you about how worthless handheld temp machines can be. And even if they were always accurate, it's still not an effective way detecting Covid.

CDC only changed the distance recommendation in one specific case: in schools. And only when all other preventative measures were also being taken, like everyone wearing masks. AND only between other students -- they still recommend teachers stay 6 feet away from other teachers and that teachers stay 6 feet away from students.

Many other countries use 1 meter for distancing though -- which is just over 3 feet, so it's not unreasonable.

Is that because everyone who is eligible has already been vaccinated? Or is it because not that many more people want it? More people need to be vaccinated before all restrictions will be lifted. People should be encouraged to get vaccinated.

We're on the right track, but not quite there yet. Mask requirements could easily go away in a couple months if enough vaccine progress is made.

I'm hoping that those who want the vaccine are able to get it, and those who don't are not not used as a reason to keep us on lock-down. Since the vaccine is so effective, it seems that those electing not to take it are the ones taking the risk, and it seems fair that they should be allowed to do so. The key is to make sure that anybody who wants it has been given an opportunity to get it.

If it was sooooo effective then the cruises that are going to start up soon wouldn’t make people wear masks since everyone on board will be vaccinated

Heard that Universal also starting using single rider lines again and searing every row and seat for rides and shows!
Cut and pasted from Universal website:

We’re excited to enhance your Universal experience with the latest safety updates from local health and government officials. There are no more temperature checks upon entry. And Social Distancing between travel parties is now reduced to three feet (1 meter). Still, most of our original safety protocols remain unchanged—from wearing face coverings across our Resort to our ongoing dedication to cleanliness and sanitization.

We continue to work closely with local health officials and our own health and safety experts and reference CDC guidelines with respect to the safety of our Team Members and guests. Key measures include:
  • Limiting capacity and following social distancing guidelines throughout all attractions, restaurants and shops throughout the destination
  • Increasing our already-aggressive cleaning and disinfection procedures, and frequently cleaning all high touch surfaces
  • All team members will wear face coverings
  • All team members will participate in extensive training on our new procedures
The latter does not speak specifically to single rider lines or every row seating but it does state capacity and following social distancing guidelines throughout all attractions remain in place.

CDC admitted that cleaning surfaces was "Hygiene Theater" after a year of saying that it wasn't.
Trust the "Science", lol.

And this relates to my post.... how? I didn't mention surface cleaning at all.
Why is hygiene theater in quotes? Obviously the CDC did not use that term -- so who are you quoting?

New data continually comes out. That's science. We didn't know everything at the start of this, and yes, people were also being overly cautious at times (and still are). But with a deadly, contagious virus, isn't caution good?

So yeah, now we know transmission from surfaces is far less likely a risk than originally feared or thought. So what?

If Science is always changing then you can't authoritatively say, trust me, and do as I say, trust the science.
Because all you are really saying is do what I say (if science is indeed always changing).
