We never do a down day. We are usually at Disney from early Saturday until mid Sunday. We drive most of the way on Friday and spend that first night offsite. Then we check in early Saturday and hit MK. Then a park every day until Sunday where we do DTD until lunch time and then hit the road and head home. I would like to do some stuff outside of the parks this time. DH wants to visit the Boardwalk but I honestly have no idea what is there and how much time to allot for it. I would like to explore Fort Wilderness. But again, no idea how long that would take. Any non park suggestions?

I love DTD and could spend a full day there. If you like bargain shopping, there are a couple Disney outlet stores (and other outlets if you're interested). I think the fishing/parasailing/water sports they have nearby looks fun.

At Fort Wilderness they have horseback riding and the campfire with Chip and Dale. If you go to the Boardwalk, you would probably want to do that in the evening to check out any boardwalk performers.

Other non park things we like to do are.....mini golf, the Boardwalk, DTD, resort hopping (monorail to CR, Poly, GF, and boat to WL, walk around the Boardwalk for BW, BC, YC and must check out AKL), bowling or movie at DTD, go to Beaches N Cream for the "kitchen sink".

We like taking a break from parks to play mini-golf, we prefer Winter Summerland. We used to never leave the parks and do a lot of Epcot dinners, but have recently gotten into the habit of planning ADRs to have dinners at various resorts we haven't eaten/stayed at.

the surrey bikes at por are fun. fort wilderness is really neat too. fw is has a more relaxed feel to it. movies under the stars at any resort is fun.

We love working our way through every resort and trying every single restaurant Disney has to offer.

We will resort hop, Monorail Crawl, bowl at Splitsville, see HDDR or La Nouba, see a movie, lounge at the pool or hang in the Boardwalk area.....but not all at once!

We loved riding bikes first thing in the morning at FW. There is a really neat trail between FW and WL. Also love visiting the horses at FW and the animals at AKL.

Every trip we take at least 1 half day and make an ADR at at least 1 different resort. We do a few waterpark visits each trip so we usually use those days but you can easily spend a half day at one park and then make an ADR for the evening. This is a great way to see other resorts and experience them without staying there.

I would suggest making a reservation for Hoop Dee Doo and give yourself a few hours outside of dinner to explore. Lots of fun stuff to do. Another option would be to make a late lunch ADR at Trails End on your MK day. Give yourself a few hours to take the boat over, have lunch and explore Fort Wilderness.

Another Fort Wilderness lover here. My daughter loves the pony rides and the trail rides can also be fun. I have seen some people say that if you are an experienced rider, you might find the trail rides boring but I still really enjoyed it and found it relaxing. It's nice to explore the ranch there and walk around. My advice is to actually take a boat from Wilderness Lodge. I love the boats to and from the Magic Kingdom resorts. Not only is it a lovely ride, but the captains are a lot of fun. We have had singing captains, joking captains, and captains who know so much about Disney. It is always a great experience. The ranch closes at 3:30 so don't plan on spending the entire day there, but you can go get an archery lesson until 4:15 or rent a canoe, kayak, or motorboat to take out on the lake. Fort Wilderness is also a lovely place to rent a bike and explore the grounds. You can end the day at the Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Review.

We love doing the bonfires at AKL, listening to the "virtual safaris", watching the animals. At Beach Club we like the movies on the beach & the bonfire on the beach with Smores. Downtown Disney is fun to do for an evening also.

Exploring resorts, love the Polynesian. Watching Wishes from the beach or by the dock there, so awesome. Also love Hoop dee doo! It's one of my favorite parts of our trip every year. Very entertaining show & yummy food, Trails end is great there too. I've only explored the Boardwalk a little.. We used to eat at Kouzzina every year but that closed, there are some cute shops & bakery there. ESPN Restaurant & beaches & cream too I hear are good :)
