OK, it has been discussed much but I wanted to have an excuse to vent about the attractions that have been either wrongly eliminated or have been compromised in some way so that something has been lost.

-America Sings! I just can't ever get past this, I loved the rotating theater and it really is not utilized very well with the current HOT Innovations building. I do like to go in there to appreciate the moving building and actuallu I don't hate the current installation but to me it seems so WDW and not really a DL attraction. Go see the America Sings show on Youtube.

-Country Bear Jamboree and the old Critter Country. I used to really look forward to entering this area and having The Hungry Bear, my childhood favorite place to have lunch and the CBJ and the great atmosphere in this corner of the park. Now it is often just a way to walk from the exit of Splash Mountain. I hope the rumors of the CBJ coming back at DCA are true but I doubt it.

-The Keel Boats. The Keel boats were amazing and made the river seem like it had so much more traffic on it. They were retired when one capsized with guests on board and once that happened they were eliminated. So sad and I get watery eyed when I pass by the remaining Keel boat permanently anchored on the ROA.

-Fort Wilderness. This is one of the most underrated mistakes committed to an attraction. It was torn down a few years ago and Disney initially said that it would be rebuilt as it was in its former glory but recently I heard that was not true and the current fort facade is for CMs with no lans to make it an attraction again. What an outrage! As a kid that was the highlight of making the journey to the island; getting to the far end and the fort and touring it! I feel bad for the kids today who will never know the joy.

-The Treehouse. So much more interesting in it's original form. The Tarzan theme and story seems "toddlered down" to me, like they dropped the traditional story for a kid's tale.

-Matterhorn Bobsleds. The cars on the ride used to not be together in two car trains, they used to be solo and the ride would bank and turn way differently as single bobsleds. The decision was made to speed up the efficiency of the attraction and make them two car trains at the expense of ride quality. The ride was built in the 1950s and it simply can't accomodate enough guests in its original form.

-Main Street. I can't believe more people don't mention this but during the Eisner reign the walls separating the different structures were removed to give it a more mall feel that is more condusive to moving merchandise. To me the feel of a small shop on Main Street is largely lost in the name of a 10% increase in sales.

-The Storyland Boats. I just hate when they kill an attraction and then just leave that area totally in solitude with nothing but leaves and trash cans. The boats were fun at night with the running lights and The Monorail cruising by above.

-America The Beautiful 360º Cinema. The Astro Blasterss area used to be a theater that showed 360º films. I like Astro Blasters, I just wish they could have found a way to keep the cinema. They have a couple of these at Epcot and they are great, I've always loved that format. Atleast Astro Blasters is fun, they initially removed the cinema to make room for the que lines for The Rocket Rods. Too bad this attraction is gone, I think everyone would still love it!

-People Mover. Letting this atraction die in many ways kinda killed the spirit and essence of Tomorrowland. Pm was the thing that tied everything together in a way that made it feel futuristic and I don't think that has been recaptured again. I miss this attraction the most. I miss the moving animation displays thay had while waiting in line, they were very creative!

-The Rockets. Again, they had something unique and imaginative and they "toddlered down" this attraction to it's current state. They could have built a kiddie version and left the original which was high up over Tomorrowland and the elevator to take you up was designed to resemble a launch pad tower. It was so cool and now... it's OK I guess. It really crowded up the entry to Tomorrowland too.

I'll stop now.pirate:

I think that removing Country Bear Jamboree was one of there biggest mistakes. I used to very much enjoy that attraction. It seems like sacrificing that for Pooh was a bad decision. Although many kids to enjoy Pooh, my kids included, it will never have the popularity that CBJ did.

I also miss the People Mover. It did kind of tie everything together in TL. Being that the track now sits empty, I guess that there is still a little hope that it could be brought back one day. :wizard:

I also miss the Skyway buckets. Too bad people were stupid and immature on that ride, which caused it too eventually close too.

I'm especially with you on the CBJ, People Mover, and America Sings. I don't even think we've been in Innovations. Just no interest.

We enjoy the Pooh ride, but not as much as CBJ. It always had a packed house for every show we went to. The Pooh ride barely ever has a line. Big mistake!

-The Storyland Boats. I just hate when they kill an attraction and then just leave that area totally in solitude with nothing but leaves and trash cans. The boats were fun at night with the running lights and The Monorail cruising by above.

I think you have the attraction name confussed. The storybook land canal boats are still running. I think you are thinking of the Motor Boat Cruise

I also miss "Adventures In Inner Space"--where Star Tours is now.

I'm shrinking . . . . .

The Skyway Buckets, yes! The Motor Boat Cruise sounds proper too!

I rode Star Tours the other day just so I could see The refence to Adventure Through Inner Space; the microscope is in the hanger right before you leave the space dock.

The Mission to Mars simulator ride was really neat too and another example of Tomorrowland losing a part of its soul.

Add me to the CBJ fan list, I loved that show and it breaks my heart that I can't show it to my kids - I know they would love it, too. My DD(4 in two days!) is a big Pooh fan and I know she'll love the ride when we go back (she liked it as a toddler but of course doesn't remember it) but it just isn't the same.......

And I loved the Skyway Buckets as well, you could get the BEST photographs from up there! :thumbsup2

I do like Star Tours a lot, but I really miss Adventures through Inner Space. I am another big People Mover fan - not only did it fit into the landscape of the sort of 'retro-futuristic' vision of TL, but it was just a nice, long, relaxing ride to go on after you had a big meal but wanted to ride something! It was fun to ride in the daytime and at night, and they could have changed some elements of it to make it more contemporary without getting rid of it completely. I mean, what they replaced it with didn't last long at all! I miss the Motor Boat Cruise and America Sings as well. Pretty much everything you mentioned, I miss all of it! I didn't like the Skyway Buckets because I am nervous about dangling from a cable in the air, but I liked LOOKING at them. I liked seeing the Buckets in FL - again, they were part of the landscape of DL.

I totally agree with all of this. Let me also add:
Conversations with Mr. Lincoln. All particianship aside, who doesnt love President Lincoln? Look what he did for our country. He is the embodiment of freedom.
I think we should start a forum petition for missing rides that we want DL to bring back. Can we do that? I would be happy to print out signatures and bring them to City hall. How would we do this?
I am open ideas...

I never added my own.

American Sings - Was very disapointed the first time we went back after moving from the area and it was G O N E!

Country Bears - so could have been updated to bring in more people. There are so many country songs they could have added. Friends in Low Places, Here's a Quarter and even Acky Breaky.

Inner Space - one of the few rides my sister and i got to ride without parents.

Whatever they did to the Matterhorn bobsleds killed the ride for me. It's like being driven down a bumpy slope in a wheelbarrow. It's not even fast enough to make up for the bumpiness.

I never really liked the People Movers, but now that I'm older I bet I would like them a lot better :)

I don't particularly like CBJ or Pooh. I'd like to see something fun take that spot, but of course I'm thinking as an adult and not with a mind toward what appeals to kids.

There are things I miss and things I wish were different, but overall I think they've done an outstanding job at DL. You simply couldn't keep the park in its original form, and there are so many great things that have been added. Sometimes nostalgia makes things seem better than they were, too.

My biggest grievance is the fact that our lawsuit-happy society has made it so the morons of the world determine what is safe for all.

A lot of the things mentioned were around when I was kid or before and I don't remember them to say that I want them back...

What I do remember and agree that it was part of the Fantasyland landscape is the Skyway Buckets...

Another thing I remember, but I was very very afraid of is the CBJ. Now I think they're better than Pooh and I think CBJ goes more with the Critter Country theme than Pooh does...

What is really starting to irk me is that almost every ride at DLR is the same or similiar to the rides at WDW... Ugh..

I totally forgot about the 360º theater! I was sitting here thinking "oh yeah, that was fun" and then you mentioned about the Rocket Rods line taking over that area and I realized I had forgotten about that too! I thought it was pretty funny how they had the line spiral around inside the circular building and then when you got to the center you had to turn around and make your way back out of the spiral. Not sure if that description made sense but those of you who saw the Rocket Rod line know what I mean. :)

I mentioned in a different thread that I miss the Rocket Rods so that is my "grievence". People Mover would be nice too but I guess you can't have the Rocket Rods and the People Mover at the same time.

Im not "old" enough to have experienced these rides. But from youtube videos they look awesome and the skyway buckets looked like a good relaxing ride

I miss the CBJ, but my favorite was the Skyway. I loved going through the Matterhorn and getting "scared" by the snowman. ;)

I miss the CBJ also. It was nice to go in and take a break from walking around in the heat. We are in Disneyland in October with our kids for the first time and it would have been nice for them to see the CBJ. I also like the Conversations with Mr. Lincoln. I would just sit there and try to figure out how they made that robotic Mr. Lincoln (and the others) so well. Another great way to escape the heat and rest your weary feet.

so many true points, and I also agree with you about CBJ. I hardly ever ride splash mountain, so I pretty much never go down that way at Disneyland

Anyone remember the old telephones (in Tomorrowland) that enabled you to call certain Disney characters? It must have been in the late 70's or very early 80's.

Just wondering!

Vaguely. I do remember the extra big pay phone 'booths' (they were more like small rooms) in TL, where several people at once could go into the booth together, sit down and make a group call (the phone and speaker were built into the wall; there was no receiver or hand set, from what I recall) - basically like a speaker phone call before speaker phones became popular and before everyone had a cell phone. I remember going into use those booths during the late '80s. I was away from DLR for six years between 2001 and 2007, and when I returned last year, I was trying to remember when and where I had last seen those phone booths in TL. There was a whole center of futuristic stuff in this one place, and the phones were part of it. Unless I missed it on both trips last year, I think that place has been gone for a long time.
