A little background: I have naturally curly hair.... it's pretty curly and fairly thick. I kept it short for several years, and then last year I decided to grow it out. I want to wear it down, but the curls / thickness make it hard. I discovered the other day that I could straighten it fairly well with some straightening gel and a hair dryer. I tried it, and I personally like it. The few comments I've gotten are positive, so I assume for the most part it looks okay.

I've worn it straight since Thanksgiving Day, and today was my boss' first day back from vacation. More background.... my boss and I have an atypical relationship as far as boss/employees go.......kind of like a father / daughter. I only say this as a preface to my story..... well, you'll see....

Anyway, he doesn't say anything all day, but I didn't notice... first, because he's a guy and second, because not a lot of people have said anything. When he was putting on his jacket to leave though, he says, "What did you do to your hair?"

"I straightened it."

"What did you do that for?"

I assessed the look on his face, gave it a moment's thought (as I recovered from the "blunt harshness" of the question).....
"Something different, I guess." I wondered why he cared.

"It looks darker."

"No."

"Yes it does."

I pulled some of it up front and cocked my eyes to the side as if examining it would somehow explain to me why it had taken on a new hue. "No, it's not darker."

"Yes it is."

*sigh* What could I say? "Well, if it does, it's not because of anything I did to it." The look on my face must have given my confusion away.

He shrugs. "No, I like it." Oh yeah, I'm convinced of that. "I was just wondering why."

I know my eyes did that confused "what was that all about" shift as he walked away. What difference does it make to how I wear my hair? Interestingly enough it brought to mind last fall when my hair was still fairly short and in that awful "growing out" stage. I had straightened it a couple of times to try to counter the "bad hair days". The first time he saw it, he said "What did you do to my Heidi?" Oh, please tell me how you really feel.....

I like my hair straight, so I'll probably continue to wear it that way unless someone tells me it looks ridiculous. Don't you hate wondering if people hate it, and are telling everyone BUT you??

Fishy† (i've missed you btw)

I know my DH is OBLIVIOUS to my hair and what I do with it. I would be picking myself up off the floor if he commented on anything about my hair.

So I guess I would be happy he noticed, and do what I want, especially if I really like it, and it makes me feel good.

Hey Granny!! I missed you too.

Oh, I'm going to do what I want, it was just one of those conversations that make you go "Hmmmmm...." :scratchin
And, he's not my DH, he's my boss...... so he doesn't get a say anyway!

Point taken on the boss vs. DH. Just drawing a parallel as to the state of observance of some of the menfolk in our lives.

I'm heading out shortly, catch up with you later, okey dokey artichokey?

LOL, sounds like my dad!!

He just hasn't gotten used to it yet and liked it the way it was before. To my dad, it is like, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

I'm sure it looks great and all that is important is that YOU like it. You will probably get tired of it and want to change it again in a few years.

YOu should post a before and after pic:cool:

LOL, he's probably one of those men that doesn't like change, it doesn't matter what kind of change.

I say that if you like it don't worry about what he thinks or what the says........he's a man therefore he has no clue what looks good anyway, lots of them think a combover is attractive.:p

Well I personally like your hair straight - not that it looked bad before, but the straight is a nice change. It looks very "mature" I guess.

I don't know what Ted's (that would be the boss) issue is. I guess he's not one who likes change. He's had the same "look" for a looooong time.

I would have been speechless too!

Sounds awfully unprofessional to me. Father/daughter relationship aside, I would have not been happy over that exchange if it were me.

That's what I'm wondering about your thread... :scared1:

He'd hate me than. I get bored with my hair easily and am always doing something different with it. I'll let it grow out and then cut it all off. And one month I'll be blonde and the next I'm a redhead.

He sounds like the type that doesn't think before he speaks. If he didn't like it, he should have kept his thoughts to himself. If he did like it, he should have complimented it. Whenever someone starts off with "What did you do to...", you know you're in trouble.

Anyway, if you like it straight, then keep it that way. You're the only one you have to worry about pleasing.:D

Sounds like comments on your hair aren't the only things you're touchy about. Sorry if I didn't hit my back button fast enough for you. Don't worry -- I'm outta here...
