What are you reading?

I just finished The Notebook and Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire so now I am on to Harry Potter and The Order of the Phoinex! This time in 2 weeks I will be reading Harry Potter and The Half-Blood Prince!

THE HISTORIAN by Elizabeth Kostova
I have "The Historian" on deck. Please let me know what you think of it. Is it summer or winter reading? :)
I'm currently reading "California Girl" by T. Jefferson Parker. I'm halfway through this book and I've enjoyed it so far. :)

I just finished One At A Time A look into a week at a California Animal Shelter and each animal's story as well as their outcome. Totally eye opening and heartbreaking but something I felt I should read no matter how hard it was at times. Made me want to go out and adopt every animal in every shelter. :( My kitties are shelter cats from a no kill shelter and it is scary to think what their fate could have been if they had ended up somewhere else. I'm now reading Awaken The Diet Within yet another diet book  :teeth: I enjoy reading them much more than doing them  This one is very insightful and practical though. I'm also reading 1001 Things About Cats which is really a fun book with lots of facts I didn't know about my little furbabies. Lots of ideas here for expanding my library this summer. :)

Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister

by Gregory Maguire, the author of Wicked

I just finished "Girl with a Pearl Earring" and really enjoyed it - it was also a quick, easy read for the summer.

I just finished Queen of the big Time by Adriana Trigiana-LOVED it!
I am now reading Oh my Stars by Lorna Landvik

In the past week I have read "Rage" by Jonathan Kellerman, "The Twelfth Card" by Jeffery Deaver, and last night I finished "Broken Prey" by John Sandford. I like books about murders! All three of them involved the tracking and capturing of murderers.

I think the Sandford was the best of the three.

I think I missed a Patricia Cornwell, so I will have to see about that.

DS and I made our reservations for the HP release party on July 15 so I need to try to get him through books 4 & 5 pretty quickly. He is reading the Lemony Snickets himself but he prefers to have the Harry Potters read to him. We finished the third one last summer because I wouldn't let him see the movie until he read the book. He started the 4th one after that but never got past about the third chapter.

That was a twisted one, wasn't it? I just finished it myself and was SO thrown off at the end.

I've tried to read Mirror, Mirror, but I can't seem to get into it.

Lots of overlapping on this thread! I read 102 Minutes 2 months ago--it was very intense & very well done. I have read a ton of books already this summer, including rereading all the Narnia books. I do that every year, and every year they get better.
Right now I am reading a non-fiction book about the Green River killer called Green River, Running Red by Ann Rule. The library is holding Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister for me--I had to put a request in for it because it is ALWAYS checked out. They are also holding a non-fiction book called Forgotten Voices of the Great War, about WWI. Going to go get those today if they are open.
The book that has most impressed me this summer has been A Very Long Engagement, by Sebastien Japrisot, about a woman whose fiance is supposedly killed in action during WWI. As she starts talking to some of his fellow soldiers, she realizes there is a lot more to the story...and that he may still be alive. It is a mystery, a love story, and a war novel all in one. The movie version is coming out on DVD on July 12--can't wait. Anyway, I highly recommend it!

Let's see this week I have read the first two books of the Sisterhood of Traveling pants. They were cute, I have no idea why I picked them up but I liked them.

Last night and this morning I read Ocean's Apart by Karen Kingsbury. Good book!!

I have another Karen Kingbury book, the first of a series waiting for me. Waiting for Morning maybe and a Luanne Rice book. Luanne Rice is a easy lunchtime read!! If I get too much into the book, I find myself reading it walking across the parking lot to the office... I am a dork! :)

Just finished "The Jesus I Never Knew." One of the best books I've ever read!

Now reading "The Chronicles of Narnia" by C.S. Lewis, specifically "The Lion, the Witch, & the Wardrobe."

Ellen DeGeneres' The Funny Thing Is... . Sadly, it's not funny and it's written at about a 4th grade level. I won't be finishing it.

Last good book I read was Thread of Grace . I'm waiting for 102 Minutes from the library.

I love Karen Kingsbury's books. I have read them all, my favorite is the Redemption series (Baxter family). I just read the first book of the spin off series. It wasn't quite as good as the rest, but still good reading.

Kellerman is one of my faves. I just finished "Rage." It was really good though it rushed the ending.

Just finished "The Marker" by Robin Cook - made me really think hard about our health care "system" :earseek:

Just started Jane Fonda's book, "My Life So Far"
