Hi!

We're on vacation starting next Friday (a week at Hilton Head, 4 days at Disney, and a total of 36 hours in the car to-and-from those fabulous places!).

What are you reading? I like mysteries, comedies, classics, and Christian lit. Any recommendations?

Thanks!

James Patterson is an excellent author. He has a series of books with the main character Alex Cross that is fantastic. I just started reading some Harlan Coben stuff, and he is really good, also. Patricia Cornwell is good (she has a series starring Kay Scarpetta, who is the chief medical examiner of Virginia in her books). Jonathen Kellerman is also really good. (These are all mystery/suspense authors).

Hope this helps! :)

I am reading The Titled Americans by Elisabeth Kehoe. It is the fascinating, true story of three American sisters in the late 1800s who tried to marry into high society by marrying titled British men. The most beautiful of the sisters was the mother of Winston Churchill. If you like history or biographies give this one a try.

I'm reading "Mr. Darcy Takes a Wife". Its the sequel to Pride and Prejudice, but not written by Jane Austen. It's pretty good, but quite, ahem, risque! Jane Austen would definitely be blushing. But I like it.

I, for one, would love to travel back to that time period. Mr. Darcy is my secret love! Deep down, I'm just a hopeless romantic trying to survive in the modern world. :cloud9: Sigh.....oh well......

.

I am reading "Dispatches from the Edge" by Anderson Cooper.

For fiction I would suggest: The Red Tent by Anita Diamant, The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd, The Mermaid Chair by Sue Monk Kidd, and either The Pact or My Sister's Keeper by Jody Picoult.

I'm reading "Wicked." I haven't seen the play, want to see it, its in my area in January.

Is the play like the book?? or did they tone it down a little. It is an interesting read.

From what I've heard, the musical is toned down a bit. I have the soundtrack for it, but have yet to see it in person (I did read the book, though). My friend watched a pirated version and said that it wasn't quite as wild as the book is.

I LOVED that book....I found it to be very powerful and moving.

Right now I'm reading The Lion's Game by Nelson DeMille. It's a good thriller!

For Christian lit, have your tried Jan Karon's Mitford series? That might be a nice series to start while on vacation.

I'm currently reading Blue Smoke by Nora Roberts. It's a really good thriller/romance.

As for Christian Lit, I love the Sisterchicks books by Robin Jones Gunn and her Glenbrooke Series.

I'm a new fan of Meg Cabot as well.

Another good Christian lit series is the Yada Yada Prayer Group series by Neta Jackson.

:thumbsup2 The paper. Does that count? Reading for fun is not my thing. I let the wife be the brainy one.

If you like suspense/mystery type books you should definitely check out the Kay Scarpetta series by Patricia Cornwell, they are excellent! If you like a little bit of fun thrown in check out Janet Evanovich's series of books (One for the Money, Two for the Dough, etc. etc.) They are really hysterical. I read the first 10 books in about 2 months time. I'm currently reading G is for Gumshoe by Sue Grafton, her alphabet books are also very good. LOL Think I have a thing for series?

I read mostly Christian lit, too, but lately have been reading books that my DD14 has enjoyed. Right now I'm reading Eragon (fantasy), before that I read The Thief Lord by Cornelia Funke, as well as Inkspell. I also read all 6 Harry Potter books for the first time -- in 5 weeks!

In the Christian Lit genre:
I loved the Jan Karon Mitford series that was mentioned above. Francine River's Mark of the Lion Trilogy is my very favorite! I have read them several times each. Most of Lori Wick's books are enjoyable, and Dee Henderson's books are good (a little predictable, but a good diversion. Try to read something between two of her books). Bodie Thoene's Zion Covenant series is very, very good, but not light reading. It's about the events leading up to WWII. Some heavy stuff there. Oh, and just thought of another author I really enjoy: Terri Blackstock. Most of her stuff is mystery/romance.

Hope that helps! I'd love to know which Christian authors you enjoy. I'm looking for a new author. I've read everything by the authors I mentioned!

I can't put it down either! But I"m saving it to bring to WDW with me tomorrow!

Loved the Jan Karon, Mitford series also! Sort of Maybury townspeople with a pastor as the lead character. Loads of good, fun, light reading. I think there are seven books in the series, but each can be good as an independent read.
I'm reading author Beverly Lewis. I finished, The Preacher's Daughter, next is the second in that series, The Englisher. Have a great vacation. :)

Just finished Mary Higgins Clark - 2 Little Girl who wore Blue (or something like that)

and just started Sue Grafton's S is for Silence
