I just read on Vacation.

The Nosy Neighbor by Fern Micheals

How's Fern Michaels as an author? She was recommended to me because I said on another board that I was getting too old for all the hopping into bed, lust but not love, etc. I've just totally given up romance books lately, reading "cozy" mysteries for a change and really enjoying the one I'm reading now, Peach Cobbler Murder by Joanne Fluke.

I finished The Broken Window and it was a good read!

Are there any Nelson DeMille fans here? A sequel to The Gold Coast is going to be released in October. I'm re-reading The Gold Coast in anticipation of the sequel.

Used to adore Nelson DeMille, I read The Charm School on the recommendation of an older gentleman in a book store when it first came out and was hooked. Always wanted them to make a move out of it, now it would be a moot point after everything that's transpired with the Soviet Union. Enjoyed all of them through The Generals' Daughter. LAt one Iread was Plum Island, guess I need to go back and start reading him again!

The last 2 books I started I only made it about 2 chapters before I gave them away....:confused3
Trying another one tonight.

I started A Bone to Pick this morning. It's also by Charlaine Harris and is one of her Aurora Teagarden mysteries. I gave up on the short stories. Those that hooked me in were too short. I wanted more. The rest didn't hook me.

For the ones that mentioned that they enjoy a good mystery without all the bed hopping, I enjoy Rita Mae Brown & Sneaky Pie Brown's series. (SP is her cat), They are the Mrs. Murphy series, a woman in VA who solves mysteries with two cats and a dog for help. Fun, quick reads that will not offend.

I'm a short ways away from finishing Summer Sisters by Judy Blume. I'm not sure I can say I'm "enjoying" it so much as I'm interested in how it ends.

OMG, Judy Blume! I thought I would die when older DD read "Are you there God?........" I told her I read that book my self when i was a girl, it freaked her out :)

Thanks! Sounds like something I'd like, and I have two cats.

HOUR GAME by David Baldacci.

People just getting killed left and right....it's getting old though. :sad2: I jumped ahead several chapters to get a clue of what I'm in for and discovered who the killer is. :scared1: NOW....I just have to get there and piece it together. Baldacci is a GREAT writer, but I think I enjoy his gov't stories better. That last one with the President was OFF THE CHAIN!!!!! :woohoo:

Just finished Fearless 14, by Janet Evanovich. It's my favorite Stephanie Plum so far!

I need some more suggestions for my 91 year-old mother. I borrow large-print books from the library for her (we also get a new release large-print from Zooba every month). She likes gentle reads. She has read all the Father Tim books by Jan Karon, everything Debbie Macomber has written, all the "Cat Who..." books & the Miss Julia series by Ann Ross. I think she has read every Danielle Steele and Mary Higgins Clarke and any cat mystery we could find! She loves to read, God bless her. I am so grateful that she can see and comprehend what she's reading!

Has your mom read anything by Maeve Binchy? She hasn't written anything new in a while but her books are really nice family relationship stories set in Ireland...she would probably like them. Light a Penny Candle was a good one, Circle of Friends was movie with Minnie Driver.

Have you read Summer Sisters? Definitely an adult Blume book.

I also recently read And Then We Came to the End which is all about corporate culture. A funny and relatable read if you've ever worked in an office setting. It was a little repetitive in the middle and the last 1/3 was harder to get through than the rest but it was ok.

Not sure what's next as most of my books are now packed in preparation for the move to our new home.

I agree about the Maeve Binchy's, I read Light a Penny Candle and Circle of Friends back when they were first published. I also recommend the Rita Mae Brown ones I mentioned a few posts back. They are at the worst PG rated. Our library also has a lot of them available on CD which may be another option for her, but I have read a lot of them in large print so I know that they are available. Here is a a link to the Mrs. Murphy series:

I'm currently reading "Walt Disney: The Triumph of the American Imagination" by Gabler. Thought I'd finally sit down and learn something about The Man since his company gets so much of my money. :lmao: It's interesting so far.

I personally find her books to be very good. Not alot of over the top sex talk.

I finished Queen of Babble gets Hitched last night. I enjoyed the book.

And just started Tailspin by Catherine Coulter.

It Only Takes a Moment, by Mary Jane Clark. I just got it yesterday. Looking forward to reading it. :)

I just finished The Blood of Flowers which was a very good story about a 17th century Iranian girl who falls on very bad times, is sold into a month-by-month contractual marriage and tries to make her way out of her bad times with her talent at rug-making. I loved it because it was fairly easy to read and the character development of the main character was very good.

It was kind of like av very light version of A Thousand Splendid Suns and Kite Runner.
