What Are You Reading Right Now?

I'm on a bad Doctor Who kick at the moment, currently reading one of the books with Martha as Companion.

As of late I've read The Guy Not Taken by Jennifer Weiner.

Tried reading SPOOK: Science Tackles the Afterlife by Mary Roach but I just couldn't get into it.

Now I've moved on to Then We Came To the End by Joshua Ferris. If you work in an office, you should read it. It's hysterical. It's all about corporate culture. I work in a large, international law firm and I keep saying, "Oh my gosh! That's us! We SO do that!"

I just reorganized my bookshelves so that one contains books I haven't read yet and books that I have and won't put up for trade on paperbackswap. (These are my FAVORITE books that I read over and over.). My "To Be Read" shelf is TWICE as large as my "Read" shelf. I swear, there must be 60+ books there! However I refuse to count them and completely intimidate myself! :rotfl:

Started The Friday Night Knitting Club yesterday. Only about 30 pages in, but so far, so good. I think I will enjoy it.

Water for Elephants - I've seen it recommended so many times, that I put a hold on it at the library, and it finally came in.

So far, so good.

My mother read this and loved it. She said parts of it were sad. It was on my paperbackswap wish list and I got it in fairly recently. I look forward to reading it. Please let us know what you think when you're done!

Still reading "Eat, Love, Pray". It is OK.

I had to toss the Eckhardt Tolle book.;) I tried but I found it to be a slice of baloney.:lmao:

Next I have either the next series in Anne Rices Vampire Chronicles, "The Tale of the Body Thief" or "A Thousand Splendid Suns" by Hosseini.

Might have to check out the smutty Black Dagger Brotherhood....:thumbsup2 Thanks....

I started The Au Pairs by Melissa De La Cruz this morning. I'm about 80 pages into it and liking it very much. After this, I'll be back to the Sookie Stackhouse books by Charlaine Harris. I have 3 of them out of the library waiting for me to finish The Au Pairs.

Right now I'm reading Playing for Pizza by John Grisham. It's different from his usual style-real light and funny. Since we were out of power for 4 days, it was a good "hurricane" book. But it would also be a good beach book, too.

I loved Water For Elephants. One of my favorite books of recent!

The Kite Runner

Just finished Nicholas Sparks "Dear John" it was ok... but same old story... guy is lost, meets girl, falls in love, realizes the meaning of life...the end  He is pretty predictable and not really a great writer either.

Next for me are the Edith Wharton novels

I'm reading Patron Saint of Liars by Ann Patchett. This is the 3rd book of hers I have read. Bel Canto was amazing. The Magician's Assistant was so-so.

I started Atonement, but couldn't get into it, so set it aside. I have heard that it gets better, so I will try again!

I need a couple of fabulous books to take to WDW with me when I go. Has anyone read The Red Tent by Anita Diamant?

Regarding Atonement..............I gave it 200 pages, yes, that's right, 200 pages & I finally had to put it down. I kept telling myself it had to get better. I just had such a hard time with it. It felt like the author was jumping all over the place. I felt like I was listening to someone that kept going off on tangents of other subjects.

Fast forward to this past week & I finally saw the movie. I thoroughly enjoyed the movie. I really wish I would have enjoyed the book too, but unfortunately, I won't be picking it up again at this point. :guilty:

See...I felt the same about the movie, I found myself going "what" at the end :confused3

LOL. :rotfl: Did you read the book also?

Well, there were parts in the movie that I found confusing, but maybe because I got almost half way through the book I could fudge my way through the movie!!! :confused3

nope, I was so bored by the movie that I had no desire to try and get through the novel

The Last Lecture by Randy Pauche. He is truly an inspiration. I've watched his lecture on youtube and seen him on Oprah. But after hearing of his passing on Friday I figured I better go grab his book. I just got it a couple hours ago and can't put it down. He was truly a remarkable man and I reccomend the book to anyone. or at least watch the lecture....makes you think about your life and put it all into perspective.

I read The Red Tent and really liked it...if you liked Bel Canto, you will probably like The Red Tent. I loved both books. How is Patron Saint of Liars?

I would also recommend These is My Words...can't remember the author off the top of my head...and Geraldine Brooks' Year of Wonders...both great, riveting reads.

Thanks. I will look them up. Patron Saint is good so far. It's a much easier read than Bel Canto, and I like it better than Magician's Assistant.

YAY - I just checked and I have them both on my "to be read" shelves (along with about 100 other books).
