What Are You Reading Right Now?

I finished The Thirteenth Tale, New Moon and Dead Until Dark this week. I have to go to the library today to get something new to read.

Dead Until Dark was very good... a different look at vampires from the Twilight series.

I like Charlaine Harris' Sookie series. I read Anne Rice's books years ago. They seem more serious. A good middle ground vampire specialist is Kim Harrison. I just finished her latest last night. I have not read the Twilight books yet. I have the first two on my shelf after I finish the books that our 7th graders will be reading this year (Crossing The Wire and The Giver).

I just finished "Murder by Peacocks" by Donna Andrews this morning. I think I'd first heard of the author here. I really enjoyed it. I think it's what's called a "cozy mystery", which is something I'd never read before, but now that I have, I want to read more of that type-light, funny mystery-type books. Another of the same type that I read recently is the author Susan Wittig Albert.

Have your read Interview with the Vampire yet? It is the first of the Vampire Chronicles. While you do not need to read it to start with Lestat, but if you are planning on reading the entire Chronicle, I would start with Interview, IMO.

I want to read all of the books, so I'm planning to read them in order. The library put a hold on Interview for me so it'll be shipped from another branch to mine. Golfgirl, you're the one who got me interested in Anne Rice. You had mentioned things about Lestat that intrigued me.

Love Anne Rice Definataly start with Interview I loved Queen of the Damned ( the movie was horrible ) The Mayfair Witch Series is great too. In the past few weeks Ihave read the Twilight series and waiting patiently till BReaking Dawn comes out. Last week I read Wicked Lovely and Ink Exchange by Mellissa Marr LOVED them they are a different take on faeries. Last night just finished The Quickie by James Patterson, love his books they read so quickly but I have to say this one was pretty predictable. NExt up will be the HOneyMoon.

I liked Honeymoon and agree that his books are really fast reads. I read Sail in 8 hours while taking breaks to feed my family, etc.

I got Blue Bloods last night by Melissa De La Cruz. It is another young adult book about vampires. I got another Charlaine Harris book but its name escapes me right now.

The didn't have Interview with a Vampire. It is evidently missing since it is logged as checked in but isn't there. That's why they put the hold on it for me.

Finished Bitter is the New Black. Liked Such A Pretty Fat a smidge better. Am currently reading Bright Lights, Bag A**. (All by Jen Lancaster, by the way.) So far it's pretty good. Light, humorous, summer reading.

Started Twilight last night. Less than 100 pages in, but so far I like it. I'm enjoying her writing so far.

I just finished The Memory Keeper's Daughter, which has been on my "to read" shelf for over a year. I did enjoy it after a slow middle.

I am reading something light now Queen of Babble in the Big City, by Meg Cabot. It's a lot of fun and reminds me of the Shopaholic books. I'm not sure why though!

No, I purposely stayed away because I knew I'd get to the book eventually. I'm sure it will be on again. My friend was almost done with the book when she decided to watch the movie, then she didn't want to finish the book because she knew the end.

I saw the movie after reading the book. As usual, the book was better.

Finished Bright Lights, Big** by Jen Lancaster. I enjoyed all three of her books and am looking forward to her new one, due out in Spring 2009.

I'm going to start The Last Lecture by Randy Pausch on the commute home.

What was Bitter is the New Black about?

All of the books are autobographies of Jen Lancaster, falling into the "chick lit" type genre. She's fiesty, narcississtic and hysterical. If you want to get an idea of the type of writer she is, she has a website: Jennsylvania.

Bitter is the New Black is her first book, about her rise to the top of her career and then her disastrous fall into unemployment.

Bright Lights, Big A** is her second, bridging the gaps between her first and third books this one focuses on her rather hilarious home life and finding the "perfect place". She also talks about being published, temping, etc. The end is a segue into her third book.

Such a Pretty Fat is her most recent book. I read them out of order (this one first, followed by the first two) and this was, hands down, my favorite. It details her many varied attempts, successes and failures at weight loss.
