What Are You Reading Right Now?

Just finished The Widow's Season and starting The Art of Racing in the Rain. Sad to say that I just recently started reading books again. I was just at a point in my life that was incredibly busy taking care of kids and pretty much just read newspapers and magazines. I used to love to read and am looking forward to going back on this thread and getting ideas. I did read the Twilight series this summer.

The Art of Racing in the Rain was WONDERFUL.

Now, I'm going through some of my high school books because I'm broke so I have to recycle my books

The commute book: The Plague Camus
The at home book: I'm just finishing Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows J.K. Rowling. I think The Decameron will be next.

That Old Cape Magic by Richard Russo -- good character study and a little lighter
Now: reading David Sedaris' Christmas book, can't remember the name but of course it's funny and quick!

Finished I, Alex Cross yesterday. It was written like the older Alex Cross books were! Not sure what will be next. I have a stack of kids novels I should read or I may pick up a Harlan Coban....hhmmmmm

Hmmm, I just gave up on Vanishing Acts by Jodi Picoult. I was finding the writing style very annoying - how she seems to end each chapter with some kind of "defining moment." I liked The Pact so read a few others but the going gets tougher on each outing.

I have about 4 more of her books in my "to be read" pile, but I think I am going to take them to the used book counter in our local Barnes and Noble instead.

I am halfway through the first Sookie Stackhouse book. It's good, light reading. AND I appreciate that the plot is a bit more mature than the Twilight books!

Love Raise the Titanic! even though it's probably pretty dated now. That was my first Clive Cussler book, read it 30 years ago while babysitting, and have read everything he's written since. Had the pleasure of meeting him at a book signing years ago and he is truly a hoot!

I"m on my second Andy McDermott Nina Ware/Eddie Chase book, Tomb of Hercules and so far I'm enjoying it. His writing style is similar to Clive Cussler. Hope he sticks around! WHen I finish this I have a Carol Nelson Douglas to read (Good Night Mr. Holmes) and some Cussler, Johanssen, Coulter and HEather Graham loaded on the Kindle, along with the first Outlander book.

That's exactly what I thought about I, Alex Cross. James Patterson at his best! Very Kiss the Girls-esque.

I've been trying to work my way through a bunch of Christmas themed novels that my mother keeps giving me. Most of them are way to sappy for me but I just finished a good one! The Christmas Train by David Baldacci is pretty good! It's very interesting to learn a little about modern train travel and the story kept moving. It wasn't as sappy and sentimental as most but it did have a nice tidy ending.

I agree on the Piccoult books... The writing style just started to irritate me after several books.

But the Sookie books are starting to annoy me as well. I'm on book 6 and I swear there must not have been an editor. Tons of grammatical errors and it's just all more of the same. And now she's brought DEMONS into the picture, I think she might have jumped the shark. Seriously.

I've read all 9 of the sookie books and I thought they were all really good. I don't really see how someone would get upset that there are demons in a book series that already contains vampires, shape shifters, witches, and telepaths. Seems like an incrediably silly thing to be upset about.

Just finished reading Blindness by Jose Saramago. Good book, but his writing style is unique. Runon sentences, paragraphs that are 3 or 4 pages long. It was difficult to read but you got used to it after awhile.


I agree with you about his writing style. I''m reading "Death with Interruptions", which I really like.

I recently read "Motherless Brooklyn", by Jonathan Lethem.
