I know this has been posted before... I was wondering what people were expecting to pay for food each day and what your family plans on eating for the amount. popcorn::

I plan for a family of 3 to spend about $300/day - we are eating at character meals and mainly sit down places, and leaving some space for snacks and drinks during the day... is this enough? :confused3

The 3 of us were there for 3 days and sent about $850. We ate at Storytellers and all around the park and bought stuff too.

I'm budgeting $250-$300 a day but this is for 3 adults 2 children. Thats with a couple character meals and sit down dinners durring our stay! We will be in the mouse house for 6 nights and 7 days so probably just under $2000. :thumbsup2

I have a family of 3 and usually figure $200 per day. We don't really hit too many of the high end places but will end up at a place on Downtown Disney at least once out of convenience which is probably the most expensive place we go. We try to get pizza from the Roundtable down the street or burritos from one of the local taqueria's once in a while to keep the cost down and then go somewhere nicer on some of the other nights. We always end up going to Buca Di Bepo for some yummy pasta at least once too. I can't remember the name of the place right now but there is a good deli type of place that isn't too far and has burgers that are better than fast food. They also have good breakfast sandwiches and in an industrial area that probably never gets tourists so the prices are lower. They are only open for breakfast and lunch though. Every time we go I always try to drive just a little bit out of the area to find places that don't cater just to tourists. Of course if you are the type of Disneyland visitor that stays there from opening to close then that doesn't really work out to well for you. We usually go first thing in the morning and stay until 1 or 2 collecting fast passes. Leave for lunch and hang at the hotel and then go back to Disneyland after dinner so we probably eat most of our meals elsewhere.

We do all 4 character meals, BB twice, WCT and a DTD place. We average about $200 a day not counting souvinires

We go for about $100 per day. It's just me, Dh and our 2 kids (2 &4). We eat breakfast at the hotel (that I bring). Then for dinner and lunch we do counter service. No character meals for us. Too expensive.

This is exactly what we did this past trip. We even had two teen boys and still spent about $100 day. Our hotel served free breakfast. Some "meals" were ice cream or snacks and we split meals too sometimes. And we wouldn't be able to pay our boys to go to a character meal anyway. :rotfl:

I'm also budgeting about $100/day

It's just 2 people that are going so I don't think we'd spend THAT much... unless we splurge a lot

It'll be about $100/day for the four of us, me, DH, DS(18), DD(16). We stay on Harbor and will have breakfast at MickeyDs most of the mornings. One morning we will do breakfast in the parks just for fun. The rest of the time it will be counter service. I can't eat much so I share most meals.

I am planning on $80 a day for food. This includes one character breakfast, and lunch at BB for me, DH, and DS-2.

I am planning to eat most breakfasts in the room, and most lunches also since we have two littles ones that HAVE to nap.

I have not figured out a rough grocery bill yet.

Wow, I hadn't even thought of a food budget, but I guess with Goofys Kitchen Breakfast we'll end up spending about $200 on food over the 2.5 days we are there. DS doesn't eat a huge amount and I plan to get things we can share and generally get counter service. We are staying at Hojos so might have McD's for breakfast on one day for a change :yay:

I like to nibble during the day (terrible for losing weight) so can quite happily face the prospect of breakfast, morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea, dinner, and late snack (No - I am not a hobbit! :rotfl: )

Think the other thing I'll do is buy some drinks/crisps/snacks from HoJos gift shop for emergencies - jetlag always makes me hungry too!!!

Yeesh, I think we are kind of cheap. We'll probably average $25/day (some days will be more, some days might be none!). We'll probably have 1 "splurge" day where we do a character dining.

Not a Hobbit, that is funny Tigger, why of course you are not! he he

Afternoon tea, sounds very nice. It sounds like crisps and the various teas for the day, are a couple of British traditions, amongst others, that carry on in New Zealand to this day. Do New Zealanders eat bacon buddies too? those sound to be yummy!

It is o.k. to snack your way around the park, or Anaheim for that matter :) because of all the walking that one can do, one needs their strength! :)

For me, when it came to foodie budgeting last month, when I was fortunate enough to spend time visiting Disneyland, and Anaheim, I decided for as long as I have more than enough money to eat, that is all that I care about, grant it, no ankle biters, or significant others, to have to deal with, so it is a very easy thing to do, that being just taking care of myself, ah, I love it! :)

tonaly,

No, you are not cheap, you just have better things to do, then to be concerned about eating itineraries. Me, too! afterall, we know that we will eat, and when we decide what and when, well please pass the salt. :)

I'd love to get my food budget down some. Can you share some of your money saving tips with all of us? Thanks! :flower3:

I'm not so much worried about the itenerary as the money. If I had all the money in the world, I could be more free like Gisele, but I don't. I have to budget so that 3 days into the trip we aren't left starving from lack of funds!

Don't get me wrong, when I visited Disneyland last month, my budget was but a shoe string one, however, I was able to make my trip happen, via saving for it.
I only had to deal with myself, so that helps, and I knew before hand, what I had in mind to eat, and where.

Tips for saving money on food.

Eat breakfast either free at hotel or from groceries in room. Or a cheap place outside DL.

Don't buy soda. Ask for free water with your meal.

Eat most meals at counter service. Realize your food bill will go up if you go to a sit down. You may have somewhere special you want to visit and that's ok, but just plan for it.

Consider splitting meals sometimes. Many meals are rather large (to me, anyway). And you don't want to be so full you can't go on rides. ;) This also leaves room to pick up a small snack later anyway, if you get hungry.

Maybe you just want to have a "snack" for a meal sometimes. Sometimes we just had ice cream cones for lunch. They are big so we weren't going to be able to have lunch and then ice cream. It was enough to hold us until dinner.

Bring a few snacks with you. Like a few granola bars, or peanuts, or something. Especially good for the morning when you don't want to give up those short lines to go eat.
