We live in an old farmhouse that isn't too airtight. (read as "the curtains move even with the storm windows down") Whenever we have snow & wind (like today) I like to make something that cooks all day to help keep the house warm. Right now I'm thinking Turkey Pot Pie (the PA Dutch kind that's like a stew, not an actual pie) with the last of the turkey. And maybe some homemade bread. Ahhh, comfort food!

So what are you making?

Warm? I'm trying to keep my house cool running the A/C. It's HOT in S. FL. :teeth: Send some COLD air this way, please!

I soooo understand what you are talking about. Something in the oven warms the house much better even than a fire in the fireplace.

My favorite is a roast cooked long and slow. I like them well done. The aroma is to die for too.

I wish I felt better, I would pop one in.

ooh! i had that once and it was made with either blueberry or blackberry wine...its so....good!!!!!!

No problems here, I've got a small house with a great furnace. If I can manage to keep the doors closed.
It's too small and I like to see outside.

I just started homemade Potatoe Soup on the stove (well, started cooking the potatoes). I also plan to whip up a batch of hamburg bbq to go with it.
:D

I make the Yummiest -- but EASIEST Potatoe Soup (nice and thick - YUM). Let me know if anyone is interested in how I do it.

Yes I want the recipe. I'm trying to get stew in the crockpot but the kids keep yelling about snowpants, gloves, boots, hot chocolate!

Our house is pretty warm too, but I love the smell of something cooking in the oven, it makes it "feel" warmer somehow. Right now I've got a pot of coffee brewing, that smells pretty good, and I'll have a blueberry muffin with it. :D

I'm not that much of a cook -- and don't really have a recipe -- BUT - this is how I make my EASY tater soup!

I bring a pot of water to a boil and then add a bag of hashed brown potatoes. These are the bags of potatoes found in the frozen section of the grocery. Already diced up and ready to be fried for Hash Browns BUT I dump them in the water a boil them for a few minutes until tender. I also add to the mix some dehydrated onion and salt/pepper to taste. Once the taters are cooked - drain the water and add milk and hard boiled egg. You can also add some cooked celery if you like. ALSO great with some cooked Ham. Sometimes I add a bit of butter too. To thicken the mix up --- I use Betty Crocker Garlic and Herb Mashed Potatoes. Just add as much as you need until it gets to the consistency that you like.

You can add some sweet corn for corn chowder. I sometimes do this later in the week when I have reheats. It makes it a little different in taste but not too much more work.

Warm???

Now that Elaine is away I keep the house at a nice 60 Degrees. I love it cold. (She thinks I'm nuts but I don't care)

I use this. . .

Warms ya from the inside out. . ;)

:teeth:

The kids and I made homemade chocolate chips cookies. They look so good, but I'm being good and not eating them.

It's not snowing here, but it's cold. I'm cooking a TURKEY. We had Thanksgiving with my parents so had no leftovers. And cornbread stuffing and we like crouton stuffing. So we are having our own Thanksgiving dinner tonight, just DH and I and the kids.

Lots of snuggling helps keep the cold out :D

Is snuggling a euphemism for something else?

I hear it gets might cold in Little Rhody ;)

I wish! The kids have off from school today, so DD, 11, is here. DS, 21, isn't making the 2 hour trip to Lebanon to teach TKD either. . . so there are "kids everywhere" it seems.

Can I be a brat and say that we opened the windows today to keep the house warm? ;) Ugh! It's warm and humid and my legs are TOO PALE for shorts right now. Where is the cooler weather we were enjoying just a few days ago?

(ducking to keep from being hit from the snowballs...) ;)
