I need some ideas. I am taking the standard broccoli/rice/cheese casserole, but I need some other side dishes.... :confused3

Mashed potatoes, candied sweet potatoes, glazed carrots, broccoli with cheese sauce, corn souffle - plus turkey, dressing, gravy, cranberry sauce, rolls, carrots and celery, and iced tea. Oh, and pumpkin chiffon pie for dessert!!!!

Filet mignon, baked potato caserole, fried corn, salad, toasted garlic bread & I'm not sure what for desert yet....thinking about a chocolate cream pie or maybe cheesecake. :cloud9:

Just me, hubby & the kids....and we don't like turkey!! LOL

Last year we had chilli & cornbread, the year before....homemade pizza!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!

YUM, YUM! LET'S EAT! :flower:

Here, we're having Turkey, Dressing, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, broccoli casserole, green bean casserole, rolls, and a relish tray. Dessert is a dutch apple pie. It's just us, but I always cook sooooo much. I got a 15# Turkey and DH said that it isn't big enough for the four of us. He was serious!
What I am truly looking forward to is that turkey sandwich for dinner tommorrow night!!! YUM!!!!!!!!!!!!
Have a great Thanksgiving Everyone!

How do you make fried corn and what is baked potato casserole??? Sounds yummy!!

Well...it's kinda silly actually....they aren't actually baked potatos...that's just what we call it. :confused3

boil potatos (or bake them...i've done it both ways)
mash them and put them in a baking dish - add
butter, sour cream, salt & pepper, & garlic salt (bacon bits & chives if you want) top with shredded cheese and bake 350 for about 20 or 30 minutes....just to get the cheese melted and the whole thing hot.

the ENTIRE family loves it....i'm not sure why...it's really easy...just something i made one night instead of regular mashed potatos...
don't add milk...it makes it too runny...you want it like mashed potatoes.

the fried corn is pretty basic too...my mom always did this

fry some bacon....crispy is best.
after it's done, add corn to the grease....(you might have to drain a little bit of the grease ) (you can use frozen or shave it off the cob) and just let it fry....stir it and turn it....not really sure of how long....just til it's done...mom said til it's white...(mine never turns white...hhhmmmm!) drain the grease, crumble the bacon and mix it with the corn, salt & pepper ...

i'm not a gourmet chef or anything....(obviously!!) these are just things that my family likes... :confused3

I'm lucky this year.....MIL is cooking the entire meal. I'm taking a banana pudding (@DH's request) and iced tea. Does it get any easier than that? Everyone have a wonderful holiday.

We are going to my mom's, so I don't have to cook at all!

Here are a couple sidedishes that have been on the Thanksgiving table before...warning: they are NOT healthy...one year, Mom made all of these (plus turkey, stuffing, gravy, mashed potatoes and green beans) and the lot of us practically rolled out the door. :rotfl: The advantage is that all of these can be made tonight and then cooked tomorrow.

Butternut Squash: Boil a package of butternut squash until soft. Mash it up with 3 tbsp butter, tsp or more of cinnamon, 1/4 c of maple syrup or more. Cover and bake with other stuff in oven.

Cauliflower Casserole: Melt 2 tbsp butter in pan, add 2 tbsp flour. Cook until bubbly. Add 1 c milk, whisk to blend. Continue whisking until mixture thickens. Add 1 c shredded sharp cheddar cheese. Put 1 head's worth of cauliflower florets into buttered baking dish. Pour cheese mixture over it. Top with additional cheese. Cover and bake for 45 mins to an hour (depending on oven temp) until cauliflower is soft. Uncover and cook an additional 10 mins until cheese on top browns.

Sweet potato casserole: Cook several sweet potatoes (in oven or microwave to save time) Peel and put in blender bowl. Add 1/2 stick butter, a tbsp of brown sugar and a tsp or more of cinnamon. Beat until smooth, then add 1/4 c or more of heavy cream. Put mixture in a baking dish, top with walnuts and bake covered until hot and bubbly. Uncover to toast the walnuts.

Sorry this is so long. Have a great Thanksgiving!

We're going to my Mom's for the traditional Thanksgiving dinner. However DH is grilling a turkey to take to Mom's (she'll make the oven one), I'm cooking a turkey w/stuffing in our oven for our families "leftovers". I'm bringing deviled eggs, vegetable tray, cheesecake and brownies to my mom's. FOr our house I'm making mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, homemade cranberry sauce to go with our turkey leftovers.
