what are you giving your parents

Tivo, everyone needs tivo.

What a great gift, we have Tivo and so do all three of my adult children! I do not know how we lived without it.

Mom is getting a sweater from WDW and a Vera Bradley wristlet
Dad is getting a bottle of scotch and a book

My mil & fil have everything. It has always been hard. We have bought them multiple gc to places they use. ex. Stop&Shop, Big Y, movies, D&D, and a rest. I usually tape them together and put them in a box, so when you pull one out they all come out.
Last year they got the above plus a scrapbook of our WDW trip together that year.
This year they are getting photos set to music on DVD. We started with each of them as a child and progressed until now with each milestone included ex. births of children, weddings, births of grandchildren.....It is the best thing. This is going to be the best.

Goto flylady.net and about half way down they have 5 lists - Children, Grandparents, Men, Women, other special people -- some of the best gift ideas I have seen in years, and most clutterfree!

I gave Grandma a Roomba last year and she looooooves it - she got a new puppy that sheds a little and she can run the roomba everyday/every other day. She also got a Tivo this year and loves it.. One year we got her a parafin wax warmer, they had one at the place she went for physical therapy, she has arthritis in her hands and it really helps.

If you want to give 'stuff' try to think of things they need/could use but wouldn't get for themselves :)

We usually give Dad something for the yard - a rose bush, a bird feeder, etc. or a new Tarheel item. One year we gave Mom a year of flowers - every 6 weeks or so, we picked up an arrangement for the middle of her dining room table or her living room. We always give them a framed collage of photos of the grandkids from the past year. They say that's the gift they can't wait to open!

I am at the stage in life where I try to give my friends and relatives things that get used up - not stuff to sit around. In other words - consumables.

Penzey's Spices are great for those that still like to cook. A fresh Christmas wreath or some type of food gift also works. Yankee candles are good unless they are elderly, and you worry about the open flame.

My dad (84) on the other hand hates everything. He thinks that gift certificates are stupid. He hates to eat out. He loves to cook, but we have every known cooking appliance.

The man never shops. He hasn't bought anything except groceries in decades. So we buy him socks, underwear, belts, shirts, shoes, etc. as needed. I live with him and I totally support him so giving him money is just something that I do everyweek anyway.

If you have kids, this is a good one! We're giving both sets of grandparents a nice holiday platter with the kids' fingerprints are the trees and thumbprints around the edges. It'll look great! There is a place here that does it all and they come out gorgeous!

Also, one year we ourselves got a white watering can and put the kids' whole handprints on the side like flowers with the date and their names. It's been on their front porch in a place of honor for 10 years now.

The platters will be from the kids. Not sure what will be from us!

For my parents, I think we're ordering a bunch of stuff from Omaha Steaks. For DH's parents....it's still anyone's guess!

I got my Dad a pair of tickets to a Doo Wop Concert (his kind of music) and dinner.

I got my Mom tickets to Phantom of the Opera and I'm going with her. Can't wait! :goodvibes

I can't tell what im getting my mother because she is a DISSER and she will probably read this post to see if I posted so HA HA Nite0wl71, you have to wait

My IL's have everything they could ever need and/or want, so they are getting a photobook I made of the kids from shutterfly.

My parents are getting gift certificates for couples massage and dinner at their favorite restaurant.

I second the TIVO suggestion too. After us owning it and my mom loving it when she stayed with us, we got that for my parents one year and they say it was the best gift we ever got them, besides the grandkids, lol.

Cant say what Im getting for my mom (As she is on here) but I am getting my dad a wireless PS2 controler and my grandma new slippers and my grandpa some golf thing.
