If you are of a religion that practices this belief, what are you giving up for Lent?

I am giving up Coke and Pepsi. The sugar makes it like a dessert to me, and I just love a Coke in the afternoon.

I gave up the same thing last year, and I am doing it again this year!

I'm giving up desserts. ALL desserts, for ALL 40 days. I'm really going to try and stick to it this year.

I'm giving up sugar for Lent - I've tried before and never made it, but I'm determined this year!

I am giving up alcohol, in the past I have managed chocolate, cookies and chips but I rarely eat those any more. So this time I was going to give up wine, but decided on all alcohol.

Our religion doesn't require giving up something, but we always try to do something that requires a discipline we wouldn't necessarity exercise. That being said, DD#1 is giving up fast food (not to include fountain diet coke, w/o which she'd perish!), DD#2 is giving up regular coke, and I'm going to use the treadmill 3x per week (medical issues prohibit more at this point - maybe I'll be able to increase # of x's per week as the time goes by.)

I'm not Catholic, but I still try to give something up, I don't know why, but I always try....:confused3

This year I think I am going to try fast food or chocolate.

I'm going to try giving up wine this year. I wonder if my family will be able to survive it! :lmao:

I am a Type I Diabetic and this is always a challenge. Last year I gave up diet pop. This year I am doing diet pop and french fries. I am sure to be a cranky boy! I almost always default to fries for sides when they're an option.

I am also going to try and force myself to eat a fixed number of raw veggies and fruits each day!

I was raised Catholic, but am a practicing Presbyterian for many years. We don't give things up for Lent, but last year was the first time I challenged myself to do so. I gave up candy. Chocolate, non-chocolate...all candy in general. It was a bit difficult since I had received a lot of chocolate for Valentine's Day, but I put it in a Ziploc bag in my freezer...out of sight, out of mind.

I'm not sure what I'm going to do this year. I'm more inclined to exercise and stick to it, three times a week or more.

me too. I'm going to try giving up breaking my diet, if that makes sense. ;)

Candy. It's what I give up every year, and it's always a challenge! Not that I eat bags and bags of it, but I love Easter candy (jelly beans, peeps, etc.) and don't get to eat it until Easter Sunday.

Swearing, I need to give it up permanently. I only swear at home and usually in private but I still do it. sometimes if there was anyone home, it would get embarassing. My mother was the same way. the only time I heard her really swear was the weekend after my Dad's business building burned down and she was scrubbing filing cabinets in the basement. My Dad and his friends were sitting in the family room, having carried things downstairs for Mom to scrub. One of Dad's friends yelled down and asked my mother to bring him a beer. She used a few loud choice words to reply to him-there was silence up there because my mother was known to be quite a lady, lol!!! Anyway, I'm giving it up.
