What are you getting your TWEEN DD for Christmas?

To Graciesmom....I do apologize for my hurtful and judgmental comment regarding your gift list for your daughter. After an exhausting day of errand running and feeling overwhelmed in my life I lashed out at you and your post. Please forgive me.

My nearly 12 year old dd is getting the following from us:

Since Santa is still visiting her little brother (prob for the last year :sad1: ) he still brings for her too:

a science circuit board kit (her brother gets one too)

I am looking to get my DD a science circuit board kit too. They just finished studying it at school and she has now requested one for Christmas.

I don't know anything about the company, but I received a catalog from MindWare that had a lot of science type gifts. You could also check Mardel Christian store or other teacher supply stores. (MindWare and Mardels both have online ordering available)

They had some really good deals on them on zulilly. I don't know if they are still on there. I think it was last week.

They are called snap circuits, and you can also find them on Amazon. They are great for teaching the basics of electronics.

Somebody on this thread got some sort of waterproof ipod speakers. I cant find the post. Who was that? Where did you find them?

Or if anyone can recommend something like this?

I wasn't the one who mentioned it (I don't think), but I ordered DD THIS speaker. I was going to order an iShower, but it was a lot more expensive and the reviews were better for this one. I figured for less than $20, it was worth a try and hopefully it works well!

Here's what I can't wait to give my 13 year old daughter:

I contacted a local beauty school. For $15 a girl, they'll run a class on how to apply makeup. (3 other moms at work are joining in, and we're letting each of the girls bring a friend. So the class will have 8 kids in it, all between 13 and 15.)

She's going to go nuts!

That is awesome - I wanted to give DD a makeup class too but I never thought about the beauty school! I found a spa that will do one for $35, but I will call the cosmetology school and check with them -so cool!

I ordered a book off Amazon called "My First Sewing Machine Book: Learn to Sew: Kids

I haven't even got a chance to look at it yet, but I hope it's good. I can't sew to save my life so they will need the guidance. I am going to have to study it too! Lol

Thank you! I added that one, and another one by the same author called "My First Sewing Machine Fashion School." She also has a book about hand sewing.

My daughter's list for Santa this year is very specific (and honestly, pretty weird) ...
Kit Kittredge
a typewriter for herself and a small one for Kit
and a sewing machine.

She'll be nine right after Christmas, and I do not remember having such a specific wish list ever. My mom is getting her a kindle, which kind of stinks because my daughter loves to read, but I don't want to buy her any books that will sit on a shelf while she loves on her new kindle.

So far, from us we've bought a Monster High fashion kit, Disney Infinity, a snow cone machine, the Hogwarts robe for her AG doll and some nerf rebel things. We went to a Hunger Games party at a local archery place, so I'm buying her some lessons because she LOVED it, and I'll make her some gift certificates to tell her about the lessons. In the past we've always tied birthday and Christmas together with a theme, but this year she's pretty much all over the place. We're thinking about redoing her room for her birthday, so I while I want to make some cool Star Wars things for her room that I saw on pinterest, I don't want them to get lost in the shuffle of redoing her room. We're just really at a loss as to what to get her this year.

My daughter is also getting a kindle but I did get her a book because she needs to bring in actual books to read in school so I figured she could read it there. Does your school do that as well?

She has a few books in series that she hasn't read yet, and my mom is the media specialist (librarian) at her school, so she is in the library daily, so she's not lacking for an actual book to read at school. Our school does let students bring in Kindles as well, though there is no way in heck I'll let her bring her kindle. I feel really "stuck" this year with gifts ... but I'm trying to look at the bright side, I know my dd is well taken care of.

For HP fans, I did find this kindle cover that I thought was adorable ... we are saving it for her birthday since she won't receive the actual kindle from my mom until after she opens her presents from us ... http://www.etsy.com/listing/169883691/harry-potter-the-marauders-map-kindle?ref=related-0

The archery lessons sound so awesome!! Now that's what I want for Christmas!!!! Santa if you happen to be reading this..... Lol

My girls are all over the page as well this year. They both still love American Girl, but also want cell phones and Teenagey stuff. Remember that age though? When your not a kid but not an adult or even a young adult (teenager)? It's a rough age for them. (And for us moms too) lol

Does anyone have any suggestions for a beginner crocheting or knitting book for kids? My 10yr old wants to learn. Also, I saw a knitting loom kit it had long and short looms........are they easy to use? I'm clueless over here lol

Our daughters are similar in age (mine will be nine tomorrow) and it sounds like are gifts are pretty much the same! DD's Christmas gifts from us (we do not do Santa) include a Kindle, American Girl items, Rainbow Loom stuff (okay, not sewing, but crafty like sewing).

And for our DD's birthday we are re-doing her room. This might be a direction you can come up with more gift ideas, because that seems to be a place where we could just keep buying! We did really well and bought furniture (a bed and a desk) on craig's list for song, but oh the accessories! From bed linens to curtains to wall decorations to new lampshades, the list could go forever. My mom keeps asking, did you get her this? We are doing her room in purple and zebra.

Not to derail the original subject but I was wondering where your tweens shop for clothes (other than Justice)?

Kohls, Aeropostale, Dillards (for dresses), and a lot of times the consignment and thrift shops- can find a variety all in one place! DD12 likes to look at Maurices too but doesn't usually pick out much of anything. I did find out that Maurices has x-short inseam (29")and their size 0 and 1/2 have a curvier cut than junior brands, so that has been perfect for DD's shape.

You know what other brand fits her well? Miss Me...of course. We got one at a CS and now I have bought two others in the same size (26x29) on eBay. I'm sure she would love to shop new at Buckle.
