I'm so curious to know what you're getting your DS's this Christmas? My DS is 10 & he wrote out a Christmas list that knocked my socks off! There was hardly anything under $200 on the list! Matter of fact, he asked for a couple of DVD's but other than that, he wants an IPOD, (I don't even know what that is exactly), a PSP, a digital camara, etc.....everything electronic. What ever happened to Lincoln Logs or Airplane model kit or GI Joe stuff? What will his list be like when he's in his teens?? :earseek:

BTW....he still "believes!" This is probably his last year "believing" & I wanted to tell him this year but my DH says "No way! Let him believe as long as possible!" :confused3

Anyway, just wondered what the norm is today? What did your DS ask for & what did you get him?

Must be the age my DS 9 is the same way. Everything was around $200. They are outgrowing toys - sadly.

BTW - mine still believes too.

Does he have any interests beyond what was on his list? My DS picked up an interest in stars & astronomy this year, so we got him a telescope & some books on constellations. It is hard to shop for kids once they hit that age, isn't it? :badpc:

My ds is also 10, and is getting a new bike (he's crashed his old one too many times :) ), a few NY Yankee player jerseys, an autographed Gary Sheffield baseball bat, a new CD player and a few CDs. He asked for everything except the bat--that's a surprise, and will probably be the biggest hit. I won't get him anything too expensive--it'll be destroyed in a month.

Sounds like my son. He is 10 and still believes too. I hope none of his classmates spoil this because I know he will spoil it for his 7 year old sister once he knows the truth. Now he wants everything your son listed but he won't be getting any of it at this moment. I am thinking of an MP3 player but on a smaller scale than the IPOD. I am also thinking of something he can build as he loves KNex and they are much less $$. We don't do clothes for the holidays as he needs them and I feel it is my job to buy them as needed and not for gifts. I think he would just love a gift certificate for Target etc. that he could us to buy something he wants. He is collecting them from his birthday (it was last month) and planning to buy the Fly Pen but I hope to talk him out of that purchase. Good luck and let us know what you decide.

Well so far our DS8 is getting an MP3 player (not the $300 IPod), a nice art set in a wood case with easel, a LeapFrog Odyssey III globe, and a couple of books. He is moving away from action figure type toys. He still likes k'nex and a few other building type toys but that is about it. He LOVES video games and I know that he is getting a few from other people so we stayed away from those. I like for both of our kids to have a few things that help them explore different interest. Both of our kids are getting MP3 players and I know that they will love them but I got them for my sanity. In March the four of us and my parents are driving from St. Louis to Miami in a minivan. There is only so much of Kids Bop that I can stand!

My DS is 12 now but still difficult. I do remember buying him an iQuest that he really loved and still uses. It's by LeapFrog and is a relatively cheap in comparison to all the other electronic things out there. Here's a link to the item at Target - but you can pretty much get them anywhere toys are sold.

Target iQuest

Heres what the website had in the description:

iQuest Interactive Talking Handheld from LeapFrog makes studying fun. iQuest has more than 1,000 math, science and social studies questions, 2 game modes (Chapter Challenge and Pop Quiz), a 40,000-word dictionary, scheduler/calendar, address book and calculator. Answer a question like how many bones in the human body, and get instant, personalized feedback on the display panel. Download over 100,000 textbook-based questions from the Internet using the Mind Station connector (sold separately). Black iQuest handheld comes with 1 starter cartridge. Imported. 6Lx4-1/2Wx1-1/4D".

The neat thing was that I could buy cartridges that contained DS textbook quizzes and he could study and play at the same time.

Just an idea!

When our oldest figured it out I told him that he who ruins Santa for others doesn't get Santa presents. That took care of that. My kids have asked for some XBox games but that is as expensive as their list gets, which is fine for me. I haven't heard any of them even say the word IPod so I don't think they are into that yet. I am thinking about getting them a new computer, to share, to replace the dinosaur in the basement that doesn't really work anymore. They are getting a dog also, so that will take up most of their "gift" with all the stuff you have to get for the dog. I don't know what else they will get.

About the only non-electronic thing my 10 & alomst 12 yr old sons have asked for is Erector Sets & Lazer Tag guns. All of the neighbor kids have the Lazer tag guns & they are interactive so now they will be able to play with the whole neighborhood.

DS will be 10 six days before Christmas so I have to buy for his birthday at the same time. I'm having a hard time trying to figure out what to get him. He's really into Star Wars now, but other than that I don't have a clue. I was thinking about the iQuest thingy, but don't really know much about it. He's outgrown his LeapPad. My mom got him the LeapFrog Globe a couple years ago and he still really likes it.

I think he still believes, but I don't know for sure. How do you find out without spoiling it, if they still believe?

Oh yeah, my DS is also into the Narnia thing. I did already buy him the DVD collection but I ordered the book collection & it hasn't come in yet! I was hoping to have it for our drive down to WDW (Dec 16th thru 29th).

I also bought him some much needed play clothes (school clothes is uniform so that's easy) & I will give him those from Mom & Dad.

My DS is not getting an IPOD. My DH is considering the PSP but I'm totally against it since it's pricey & he's liable to lose it somewhere or drop it too many times so that it'll break (like his GameBoy SP!) He's been wanting the PS2 since it came out & he's the only one out of his friends that still has the original PS (given to us by an old friend of his that got the PS2 that year). Life is so rough for these kids today! Matter of fact, all his 10 y/o buddies have already had cell phones for the past 1 to 2 years!

DS10 is getting a: bike, star wars light saber kit, battleship game, magnetix, star wars space ship, star wars 5 pk figures, skates

That's what santa will be bringing. We parents are giving them a trip to WDW from us and he'll get lots of other things from other relatives.

My stepsons are 13. Everything on their list is electronic...XBOX, PSP, cell phone, vu-go (?), accessories for XBOX and PSP, games for XBOX and PSP. We are getting them the Playstation 2...the one at their house in IL is broken. Beyond the little things, like "Florida" clothes...I'm stumped.

Ds 10 was the same way, hard to shop for.

I found the Robosapien for $39. so Im happy with that.

Some software, baseball cards, and more hockey stuff.

My brother found him a bunch of old international coins on ebay, I know that will be the gift of the year!

Rose, my 10 yr. old son asked for RoboRaptor, that's it. I bought it for him from The Sharper Image ( hasn't arrived yet) and I forgot to tell DH about it. Yesterday, DH told me not to worry about getting DS his "big present" (a Star Wars lightsaber) because he had bought it. :bitelip: So, I told DH that I had bought the RoboRaptor for DS. :bitelip:

DD is the only one that asked for the most stuff. She wants a Hello Kitty tv with DVD player, gaming system AND cable connection in her room. :earseek: We did buy the Hello Kitty tv with built-in dvd player, but she won't be getting cable in her room. :rolleyes1 :rolleyes1

Wow, he sounds just like my son. My son will be turning 11 on December 21st and it is tough buying for both days. But he is a huge Star Wars fan and LOVES The Simpsons. So I got him a 3D, round Simpson's puzzle, Simpson's Operation game, the Star Wars Trilogy on DVD, The Simpson's 6th season, a magic kit. He still likes K'Nex, Lego's and Magnetix so I will probably pick up some of those.

DS 10 is getting a roboraptor, terrain twister, make your own light saber kit, skate board, bionicles. His list was very, very long.

DS 12, XBOX 360 ,games and accesories, best buy gift certificates and books.
My aunt is getting him an IPOD I do believe. Thats all the kind of things he likes.

Hi Rose!

I know what you mean about the gifts getting more expensive, it seems like not only are they more expensive, but the list is getting shorter. DS (9-1/2) made a list is October which consisted of:

Lego Sets
Millenium Falcon
TIE FIghter
SRC-170 Starfighter

Clue Mysteries Game (Prequel to the Clue we grew up with)

Microscope

A dog

Game Boy Advance Pokemon Emerald game

Game Cube Mario Baseball game

Game Cube Chicken Little game

Chapter book

Yu-Gi-Oh trading cards

He has since added a X-Box 360 and a Game Boy Advance DP (I think that is what it is), neither of which he will get. DH and I bought him a computer and printer, which is his big gift plus some smaller stuff, then "Santa" is bringing him the Millenium Falcon Lego, a DVD he said he wanted and a clock radio/alarm/CD player.

Good luck shopping, I am afraid it will get harder from here on out!

WOW! A Robosapien for $39! What a deal! We got DS one last year from Sam's Club & it was $89! Everywhere else, it was more expensive! Good shopping binny!

Hi Rita! :wave2: My DS also wants cable connection in his room. We almost got it for him this summer but it was sooooo hot, I couldn't let the cable guy go up in our attic. We did go as far as getting him a phone in his room but since he got it, he only was excited about it for about a week! But that's okay...I'm happy to have a phone in there when I'm cleaning his room. I might fall into the black hole in there! :teeth: My DS already has a TV/VCR in his room but without cable, he can only watch his video's ~ which I'm comfy with. Not comfy with cable. Hope you have a great holiday Rita!

Hi Debbi ~ can't believe your DS is 9 1/2 already! Sounds like he wants the same toys as my son! LOL! I'll have to check if my son is still playing with his yu-gi-oh cards...if not, I will drop them in the mail for you. They get tired of stuff so quickly too!

I keep thinking, when did toys start to cost over $100??

In reading all these posts, I see my DS is not alone in asking for all the electronic stuff. What in the world will they want when they're teens?
